I believe I read this specific short story in either 2018 or 2019. It was a new-ish release at the time. It was a collection of short stories including the one in question. Told from the first person, the narrator spoke about how they would be losing their hands soon. They ruminated on how it felt to touch things like their hair and their skin, and they mourned the loss of touch. In the story, hands were cut off and replaced with prosthetic hands, and the whole process was mandated by the government. I believe there was a number system of some sort? Where you were notified based on a number when it was your time to give up your hands. But this detail might not be 100% accurate.
