Fruits Basket, Vol. 1 question

So I don't remember the title obviously but it was a manga I read a long time ago. What I remember is that the main girl lived on a farm. Her father? I think it was her father was an astronomer and his tower was also on the farmer'a land. His assistant was also her best friend. I remember a ball were the girl becomes best friends with a princess/rich girl. And she ends up going to school with her. Her best friend the boy ends up dressing up as a girl to go school with her and also to warn her?? I dunno I just remember a part where he was branded by a cross by some bad people that were connected to the astronomer.
Anyways...I have been trying to figure out the title of this manga bc I want to finish it
