Ernst Theodor Amadeus (E.T.A.) Hoffmann published his masterpiece, The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr in 1819-21 in two volumes. An admirer of Laurence Sterne, Tomcat Murr could be considered an homage to Sterne’s Tristram Shandy.
