Yes, I think all of those things, Jamie.Team names I thought of:
Red Hot Readers
Chili Peppers
That's all I can think of right now.
I kinda like Red Hot Readers. I will see if I can think of anymore but I suck at coming up with names..lol So anyone volunteer to be captain?
No volunteers yet. I'm captaining another team now, and have my own group, so it would be difficult for me to do. I can though, if no one else is willing to.We also need to figure out how we want to approach the challenge. Do we want to just find our own set of words individually each week, or do we want to all work on finding the same words? I've done it both ways, and I have no personal preference.
I have no preference on how we find the words. I would prefer not to be captain because I work in the hospital setting and my hours can turn nasty very nasty. I like the Red Hot Readers. It's a clever name. :)
I have done a little research and most people say it is best to work on the same words and that racks up points faster. Oh and to always make sure to get the bonus points each week. But I am willing to go with what everyone else wants since it is my first game and I don't know what I am talking about..lolAs for Captain I have no idea what I am doing BUT if anyone else don't volunteer I could give it a try.
@Jamie...A captain's job is pretty easy. Do you know how to make a spreadsheet? It is not a requirement but it does help (If you would like to see an old spreadsheet of mine I'd be happy to show you) otherwise your team can just use the game spreadsheet to keep track of their points. You would also get in contact with me if your team is having any difficulties. You would also be the one to use the randomizer if your team chooses to go that route to pick your extra items (the other routes are just talking out which items you want to coordinate or not coordinating at all). If you have any more questions I am here to help.
I know the team challenge I did where we coordinated the words together worked a lot better and faster than it did on the team where everyone just chose their own words to find each week.
Jennifer I ran a few challenges at another site so I am good with using spreadsheets but I would love to see one of your old ones to get an idea on the best way to set it up if no one else wants the job. I am with jingles. IMO coordinating words together makes more sense to me. What does everyone else think. And if we go that route do we do random, harder words first, or have a weekly discussion on which words to read?
Here are a few spreadsheets you can look at for ideas! One of my old spreadsheets
Lemon Drops Spreadsheet
Icy Blue Shivers Spreadsheet
I think coordinating words sounds good. I am okay with either way but it does sound like this might be the best option.
I'm good with whatever process we use to coordinate the words. I like the idea of finding all the hard words first. If we do that though, we might want to find a back up as well, just in case the item is called later on (after we've all found it), and we all have to find it again. If we all work together though, I don't think it would be a problem.
Ok so we are coordinating words and I guess I will be Captain, right? I have a spreadsheet almost done and I will post the link this evening. So now we need to finish deciding a name. I am good with Red Hot Readers but am open to more suggestions if you have any. We need to get everything squared away before tomorrow. Also could you please list a few words that you think will be more difficult to find from each list. I will be back after work to check in.
Great, Jamie. Thanks for taking on the Captain duties!I think everything under the People category will be easy.
Under the Places category, I'm thinking Planet (proper noun Earth, Venus, etc) might be difficult, but not sure.
Under Things category - umbrella might be difficult, but then again, I've seen several covers with an umbrella on the cover, so maybe not.
Ok here is the spreadsheet link. If anyone sees anything that needs changed let me know. I will check back in a little while to see if anyone chimes in about the name and if not I will let Jennifer know this evening what we choose. Red Team
And I agree with you on the words so (depending on the weekly chosen word) we will start with Planet and Umbrella. If no one else has any suggestions on which words to read I will just use a randomizer each week if everyone is ok with that.
Awesome spreadsheet, Jamie!Sounds like a plan with the name and words process.
I'm so excited about starting tomorrow!
Ok ladies since tomorrow is the start of the challenge I will go ahead and let Jennifer know we will be the Red Hot Readers and that I will be captain. I will post all of the words tomorrow after the weekly words are chosen so we can get to finding a book to read. I am excited to get started!!
This weeks words are -Color ~ Blue
Bonus ~ Flame
and the other words we need to read
People - Mother
Places - Planet* (proper noun ex. Earth, Venus)
Things - Book
*can be fictional
Now go forth and find your book ;)
If anyone has trouble with anything or if you have any suggestions or ideas on picking words etc let me know.
Thank you Jennifer. I have hosted a few challenges at another site I use to hang out at. This will be my first team challenge though and I am excited as you can tell..lol!!
I'm still tracking down a book. As soon as I know what I will be reading, I'll post it for you, Jamie.
Hi guys, sorry for not being so vocal lately. I was sick this past couple of days and didn't feel much like turning the laptop on, even though I was following everythinh that was happening 'round here from my phone :)I love the team name, the strategie is awesome and Jamie congrats for the leadership.
The book I picked is by author Jasmine Haynes, Show and Tell.
Which has all words in it.
Happy reading everybody :)
I'll be reading
, it has all the words as long as Bible works for book, otherwise I'll look for something else :)
I'm either going to read Witness in Death (which may be missing planet) or The Martian, which has everything in it. The problem is, I'm still on the waiting list for The Martian, so I'm not sure it will come through in time. The J.D. Robb book does have both the word called and the bonus word though.
If I come across something else I can get my hands on that has all the words in it, I will use it, but I've been looking and so far no luck.
Okay, how do we find out if our book has all the words in it? I can still switch my book if I need to but I don't know how to check.
bamaace83 there are a few different way. I use calibre because that is what I use to put books on my kindle. Some people use google books and you can also look up some of the books on amazon and pick the hardcover option (i think) and then use the look inside feature and you can search it. You can also use your kindle if you have one to search the books you have on it. There might be easier ways or others but this is all I know at the moment.
Thanks! Last time I did a scavenger hunt challenge like this I just wrote the words down and tried to remember to find them when I was reading. That's what I planned to do this time. Now, I'm going to check to see if all five words are in this book. If not, I'll change really fast because I was about to sit down and read it.
I was wondering if Bible counted for book also. Looks like my book does have all the words in it as long as we can count that as book. If not, I'm working on a back up option.
Bamaace83...if you are using Amazon's Look Inside feature make sure you are on either the paperback, mass market paperback or hardcover. The Kindle version will not work :)
I just wanted to post a reminder when you are looking for the Planet item make sure if you use Earth it is capitalized if it is in the lower-case form it will not work because that basically just means dirt not the planet we live on :)
