About a Boy by Nick Hornby is hopefully a book we just need in times such as these, a light humorous read to make us smile for a while.

There were even three adaptations of the book, and I'd like to watch them all! The first was a very successful 2002 movie, with stunning British cast (Hugh Grant, Toni Collette, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Weisz etc). The following year there was an American TV movie with Patrick Dempsey (equally dreamy actor in my opinion) in the main role. Ten years later or so, the TV show came up, with David Walton and Minnie Driver in the main roles. The reviews weren't bad for any of them. I've seen only the first movie, and that too was ages ago, when it came out.

I hope you'll like this book and the adaptations! Freely share your thoughts and impressions below :)

Ruby Grad (rubygrad) | 17 comments Reading it now. It's a really fun read.

I saw the Hugh Grant film years ago and I remember liking it. It appears to be available for streaming on Vudu, Peacock and Amazon Prime. The TV series appears to be available for streaming on nbc.com. The only thing I could find for the Patrick Dempsey TV movie was a clip on YouTube.

Finished it. 4 stars: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I finally got a peaceful Sunday afternoon and managed to read this book. It was indeed a perfect one, a breezy read that made me smile very much, even though there were some heavy topics in it! I actually liked that, and I think the author handled Fiona's depression very well. I am familiar with that, as I am sure many of us are if not personally then through some of their friends or relatives. It was humorous, yet gentle and respectful.

I completely agree.

Now what bad luck, or should I say a faux pas ;) Don't worry, this one at least is easy to find. When you get to it, I'd like to hear your opinion!
