- The black symbolises Aboriginal people.
- The yellow represents the sun, the constant re-newer of life.
- Red depicts the earth and peoples' relationship to the land. It also represents ochre, which is used by Aboriginal people in ceremonies.

Yes, interesting. I just did some very superficial research and found two book covers. The one here on GoodReads has a white sky and a golden sun:

But, the one on both GoogleBooks (my reader) and Amazon (I guess also Kindle then) has a golden/yellow sky and a red sun with award mentions and a blurb from another author:

I haven't checked any other sources for any more book covers. I honestly don't know which book cover predates the other, or if they are different covers for different markets.
[edit]I also just noticed having both covers on the screen at the same time that the circles/light waves are different between the two, so it wasn't just a simple re-coloring. They are two completely separate artworks, variations on a theme if you will.

The top cover, white/yellow/black, is from the Australian first edition.
Bottom cover, orange/red/black, is from the US publisher.
The second edition published in Australia is white/black/red
