As you can see there are a fair few folders and a lot of threads currently running on A Good Thriller, so occasionally things may get missed by us moderators. We do strive to keep track of everything going on, but we are human, so please do bear with us!! Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a thread solely for the purpose of asking any questions you may have of us, highlighting any problems, anything at all. We're here to help and hopefully are very approachable. You're also welcome to Private Message us too.

Thank you for being a part of A Good Thriller.

Janet

message 8: by VickiLee (new)

VickiLee I just joined the group. As I read through the interesting threads, I felt I had made the right choice for a book group. Then, I began to flounder. How do you choose a book to read? Do we read one as a group? When I looked at the book of the month selection I saw lists of names with book selections beside them. Perhaps this group is more for authors than readers. Would you explain it to me? So much of your site looks delightful, but I can't get my head wrapped around the book selection. Thanks from a newbie.

We are a little different, we have lots of different topics.

Our BOTM for April was any book by Stay Green, I have just read Tin God.

The reason we are different, is we base our BOTM with which author is doing a Q & A, and Stacy Green is TOMORROW, April 6th, Monday.

We then have a Book Pal thread, which is very popular, where you and a partner choose books for each other.

Then we have Pick IT For Me, where you list 5-to 10 books and all the members pick a book for you , the most votes and you read that book, this helps as you can books that you have already, again very popular.

So at present I have at least 3 books for this month.

Hope this helps, any more question please add here all you can always PM me.

message 10: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) Like VickiLee I felt a bit overwhelmed with all of the folders and discussion topics. Would it be worth setting up a topic in this "Members - please read" folder explaining where everything is? Hope you don't mind my suggestion!

message 11: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10557 comments Mod
We do not mind at all comments and questions.

Janet my co-helper is very good at tidying our home page often which has been done recently.

All our threads are in folders for each subject.

Introduction, sections and threads..

general threads, with open discussions, chat chat, etc..

Books folders, where just finished, share your review, What Are You Reading.

Q& A folder, where many members read our older Q& A authors threads.

Authors section, where authors can mention their own books, and promote.

Music folder.

Film folder.

Each folder has a few threads in, some more popular than others.

It really is just going through the hone page and have a look at all the different subjects and enjoy reading.

We have some than can make you smile and also give you ideas for books.

Hope this helps

H.L. Walton | 40 comments Hi I've got a question. I am running a giveaway on my mystery/thriller novel Behind Blue Eyes and will be giving away ebook copies to the first 100 people to request it in order to get my book out there for people to read and enjoy and try to generate some honest feedback in the form or reviews on Goodreads and/or Amazon and I'm just not sure where I should post this. I want to get the word out there to as many mystery/thriller readers as possible but I don't want to be annoying anyone by posting the wrong thing in the wrong place. Thanks :-)

AS you go down the home page, you will see we have a section for authors.

You can post your message on " Promote Your Book" and Free Giveaways, in the authors section

Amber Foxx (amberfoxx) Helen, FYI, you can run e-book give-aways on Booklikes. It's another site sort of like Goodreads.

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments How does the monthly book vote work? Do we start with a list of books to choose from? Then each person puts them in an order?

Book buddies-we are randomly paired. I chose a book off THEIR to read list that I have already read for them to read and visa versa. That's a tough match up do I must be misinterpreting it.

I'll stop their for now. I'm partially confused all of the time.

Diane

We do not do a BOTM every month, we try to do a special feature called Read a long with "author"

For the last 4 months we have had a special guest author (member) and we have a Full BOTM when we have a Q & A author, as with Mary Kubica on the 24th November.

Next month we have a read a long with Robin Burcell, a former San Fransisco Police Detective with her great books The Last Good Place.

I have a read along authors to May-June 2016.

All questions regarding book pals can Autumn answer best - but from experience I can say it really depends. Some read the same book together or choose for each other a book they read and were so excited they think the other one has to read it and than discuss it. It did even happen a book pal pair started a book and both disliked it that much they changed for another one. If you can communicat well with your book pal I think almost everythink is possible and it's really a great experience :-)

Actually I'd like to know about both. Book buddy's I would randomly be given a Buddy. It's up to those two people what will be read?

Pick it for me- someone chooses a book for your to read list? Who does this and do I choose a book for the person who chose mine. Then we are done with each other?

message 23: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10557 comments Mod
Janet has created 3 threads for the "Pick It For Me "

thread, one you add your books, say 10 books.

The next thread, everyone goes to, to vote, as you do and pick your choice of books for everyone else books.

The third thread is a chatty thread.

The idea for the threads, is one for books, one for voting (no chatting in these two) then the third thread for the chatting.

The Book pal, each month is you add your name by saying "I am in", then at the end of the month Autumn will pick two to go together for the next month, where the two of you can discuss if you read the same book, or one in your own bookshelf.

Both these threads we started earlier this year and are very popular.

message 24: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments Thank you Sean. I've seen the thread where everyone picks 10 books. Now that that's separated from the bunch I still don't get it. I put up up to 10 books I like as do other people. Is this just to see other people's book interests and discuss them? No actual voting or reading of any of these is the point. Just for comparisons and discussion purposes?

PIFM. Someone chooses a book off of my To Read list. Correct?

Book buddies. I would be randomly matched and then it's up to me and my book Buddy what we will read. I my book Buddy and I hit it off we can continue as buddies. If not the following month I do an I'm In again. Since it's random I hope it's not possible to get the same one.

I've never seen things like this and they all interest me.

message 25: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments P.S. To the above comment. The listing of up to 10 books IS the PIFM thread. I put books up I want to read and other people choose which I should read. I assume many people give opinions or does each person just vote on one of my books. This goes to Janet or Sean. I see Janet is the go to for this thread.

message 26: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments P.S.S. PIFM is a voting thing. Book with most votes I read. How long is the PIFM voting open for?

message 27: by Janet , Moderator (last edited Nov 15, 2015 07:58AM) (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
PIFM is like a monthly book challenge.

The idea is that you list a number of books ideally between two and ten for the other particpants to vote for. You're basically asking other readers to choose a 'read' for you for the following month. Ie. a December read is being chosen during this month.

So, in the first thread (PIFM December Read) list your books that you would like other participants to vote on.

An example may be:-

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn
The Girl On The Train - Paula Hawkins
and so on.

How you list them is your choice.

The second thread (Place Your Selections Here) is where you vote for all the other participants from their lists which you'll find in the first thread as well as the other participants making their selections.

Example:-

Brenda - (name of book)
Amy - (name of book)

The idea is that you stick to ONE MESSAGE per person and keed amending/editing that ONE MESSAGE.

The third thread (Chat/Banter/Review) is where discussions and chatting take place regarding the selections made. If you read carefully at the top of each thread and scroll through hopefully it will make some kind of sense.

Book Pals is a buddy read that Autumn runs. Again it's simple enough. A thread for signing and once the thread has been closed Autumn will do the pairings and list them. Another thread for discussions on how the read went or anything else.

Our Read Along threads are Q&A's with authors where we read the book nominated and the author will be around to answer any discussions in the chatting thread. This month it's Heather Burnside.

Mary Kubica is doing a Q&A with us on the date found at top of the Home page. This month it's on my birthday, November 25th!! :)

Hope that helps clarify the queries that you have. Any further questions, please ask. We're here to help! :)

Mary Kubica is on 24th November.

Changed date on the books on our home page.

That leaves your birthday clear !

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments Happy almost Birtthday. Yes it does. My confusion was from the three threads that go with PIFM. I did not realize they went together. I'm new and not trying to make waves. It may be clearly spelled out and I missed it. Can you label those three 1 of 3, 2 of 3 and 3 of 3. I didn't realize they followed each other. NOW I do. Like I said I probably missed something. Thank you very much

Not at all. I see where you're coming from and I'll do something along those lines for the January reads. I do appreciate how it can be confusing to start with. If there's anything else, just ask. :)

We will always be fair, that is why we are popular.

We try to keep everyone happy.

To do that we try to keep our standards as a group high, friendly and nice to each other.

That is all we ask, I don't think that is asking for too much.

We enjoy new active members, have fun and enjoy ourselves.
