Hello Everyone and welcome to Team Flava Flav!
I am your captain for this year's Wheel-a-thon! Most of you look familiar and all but a couple I've been on teams with before. It's nice to see some familiar faces again and add some new ones. I am also one of the moderators for NBRC and have been for about a year.
I'll be adding information to some top posts over the next couple days for reference, etc. I went through I grabbed Wheel shelves where I was fairly certain which shelf you were planning to use for the game. Please check if I linked the proper one [see message 5] or post the link to the correct shelf in the thread.
I also have a tracking sheet ready for use as well. One thing new this year is an over-reading penalty. So everyone should stick fairly close to the number of books you signed up with. The penalty is on a team basis, so we can cover for each other if life gets busy and you can't read as much one round as you thought. You can always read longer books though if you have 'extra' time.
That's about it for right now aside from welcome to the team, I think we have a great group here :)

Hello, Team!I’m Nanci, one of the co-captains. Judith and I have teamed up a number of times over the years and I can tell you we are all in great hands with Judith leading the way! Sonia, really looking forward to getting to know you, along with some others I haven’t played with before!
*waves*It's wheel time baby!!!!
Hi,
I'm Sonia and one of the co-caps. I like all NBRC's team challenges, but wheel-a-thon is def my fav.
I'm from sunny Portugal, although today the sun is hiding behind clouds - yes, we get bad weather too. I'm also not as active during the weekends, but it's my reading time, so, I'm kinda forgiven?
I'm also a terrible mood reading, meaning I'm really good at planning, but not that good at sticking to the plan. That being said, I'm an huge Ilona Andrews fan, and there is a series from her that I have been wanting to read, and it would work perfectly for our APRICOT spelling, so maybe now is the time... we'll see.
Hello team! Looking forward to this starting as wheelathon is my favorite of all the challenges I've done.
Hi everyone! This is my first wheel. Is there a strategy or best way to contribute to the team? I realize this is a spell it out. I read all of the info, but my head was left spinning.
Hi everyone!I'm Vikki from Northern Ireland. Been a bookworm all my life. My favourite genres are crime & thriller but I also read fantasy, paranormal, historical fiction, chick lit and I like classics too.
I've taken part in most of the past wheelathons and loved them all.
Looking forward to this one :)
My shelf is wheel6

No worries! Half the time I'm reminded to make my shelf when I need to set up the links to everyone's shelf :)

We are going to use a Tracking Spreadsheet to sign up for letters for the spelling. Here is the tracking sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
And I also put it in Post 6 so you don't have to go hunting for it later in the thread
If you aren't comfortable using spreadsheets or you aren't able to easily put information in there (poor connection, on vacation, whatever). You can post the book information here and one of the captains can transfer the information for you.
Round 1 is fairly straightforward. Our word we are spelling is Apricot. We need to find books that work for these letters and the just read!
In addition we are looking for 5 books with some sort of wheel on them. This is very broad, anything from a tire to a rolling pin.

Planning to read I think works well, I think that helps make sure to only have 1 partial spelling.
If it looks like you aren't going to finish something you planned to read and had on the spreadsheet, just post here and take it off. That way either the captains can move things around or someone else can grab the spot.

Are there points or something for the difficult letters? Should those be listed as other letter options of the spreadsheet. I just noticed them on the official spreadsheet and wondered.

It's really just for bragging rights and teams with the highest number of difficult letters by the end of the game. We don't award higher points for that because the words are completely random in assignment to the teams and the number of difficult letters in words is very uneven.

I'll put this in a top post as well, but here is a time zone converter.

Wheels doesn't start until October 9th at 9pm London.
This team covers a few continents so in terms of timing we are a bit all over the place.
But please remember books used for this challenge cannot be started until the challenge begins.
Once the challenge starts though, the books are used in whatever Round they are finished.
Example: you start reading Les Misérables on Oct 11 but don't finish until Dec 13. It can be used in Round 5 even though it was started during Round 1.

Thanks Judith!
Excited that everyone from our team is now here! The spreadsheet is looking great and getting filled in even before we start. Way to go team!A bit about myself. I live in VA on the east coast of the US about 100 miles away from our nation's capital, Washington DC. My husband and I retired 6 years ago and we have have 6 grandkids living within 20 minutes of us. They all keep us hopping and hopefully young! Our youngest daughter and her brand new husband live in Colorado. Every winter while our kids were growing up we took them skiing out West, so she chose to live there to be able to ski more often. Lucky duck!
Sonia, we were fortunate enough to spend almost 2 weeks on holiday in your gorgeous Portugal. We did have a few days of rain, but the remainder of our time the weather was glorious! Loved all the phenomenal tile in your cities! We were able to hear Fado in a few restaurants and clubs. I wasn't aware of that singing, but we all loved it!
Nice to have a captain based outside of the US to cover for Judith and me while we're sleeping!
Looking forward to getting to know those of you who are new to me!
Wheel starts in a little over a day! I hope everyone is ready :)
Let us know if there are any questions before we start!

If people are interested, participating in BOM discussions is a way to earn extra points for the team. But please only participate if it is something you are interested in doing or a book you don't mind reading.
I have a link to all of the books and discussion threads here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The next one starts on Oct 16.

I need more opinions on this book...There is a truck on the cover that has a wheel but is partially covered by the title. Would this work for a wheel?
We're getting closer to starting. I'm doing other challenges and trying to coordinate all of the books I have to read. My first team challenge was TT8, so I am sort of new to the juggling of books to read. I'm looking forward to the big start in about 21 hours.
Awww thank you. I had the week off, plus we were in quarantine mode, because of one of my niece's classmates tested positive for covid, so... a lot of craziness to channel...Anyway... I'm going to finally claim some spots on the spreadsheet. Not that many, since I know me, and my mood reading issues...
