jingles ~BINGO Mini Challenge~

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

◈ Books with a read date between February 14 - February 28, 2015 count
◈ As a team, get "BINGO" by reading books for five squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to create a line (there are 12 possible lines)
◈ Only one book per square
◈ For each line completed, your team receives a "BINGO Bonus" of being able to chose one card in any hand for the duration of the challenge (Feb 1 - April 30) that you can claim double points for
◈ Books used for BINGO do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ "Free Space" square means you can read any book
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 160 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 40,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Team spreadsheets have been updated with a BINGO tab so that you can track your books and claim your bingo lines

description

Notes
◈ Current Best Seller: We will accept any major best selling links, just provide the link with the book. A good website to use is http://www.bookdepository.com/bestsel...
◈ Colours on the cover need to be the predominant colour. If unsure you can post here for a ruling
◈ It is one book per square, but remember that lines overlap, so in total to cover all the bingo squares is 25 books

jingles Good afternoon, team! I'm jingles. I'm very excited about playing this game with you all. I've never played before, so for those of you who have, you might have to keep me in line a bit until I get the hang of it.

Let's get this party started!

To make things easier to track, please create a shelf for the books you read for this challenge, and post the link here. This will make the verification process move much easier and quicker :)

Since we are starting late, and anything we've read from Feb 1 forward can count towards the challenge, if you will post a list of the books you've read so far for February, we can start figuring out where best to place those books for the hands we've been dealt. That way we can start getting our points recorded.

If you need help with your shelf or your books, just let me know. I'm always happy to help :)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments I have already read Spy High Mission One this month and am almost finished with Little Women

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments I'm so excited to play! My Mom is on team Betty Boop, and in my opinion I am already beating her because my team name is cooler :)

message 18: by jingles (new)

jingles That is awesome, Rachel. Have you and your mom ever been on the same team together?

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Nope, this is the first time I've never played, I just joined Goodreads.

message 20: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments So lets all get to know each other! I'll start.

I'm Rachel, and I am 14. My hobbies are reading, singing, drawing, and poetry. I am a homeschooler and homesteader. I have FIVE younger sisters. My favorite book is Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke.

message 21: by jingles (new)

jingles Wow, you are very busy, Rachel! Sounds like you have lots of fun though. Lots of hard work too, I know with school, younger sisters, etc.

I've never read anything by Janette Oke, though I've heard much about her over the years.

message 22: by jingles (new)

jingles I'm jingles. I live in the southern part of the US. I read all the time, though it seems the more I read, the more I keep adding to my TBR.

I have a little black & tan long-haired dachshund, who is a real joy, but sometimes also a very difficult little boy. His name is Oscar, and he is 2 years old.

message 23: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Jingles - We can complete the first hand with just your finished books! You must be a fast reader. Do you think that The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After could count as the ninth in a series

message 24: by jingles (last edited Feb 10, 2015 08:01PM) (new)

jingles LOL. Not a fast reader, so much as all I do is read.

I've been looking at our books in relation to our hands, as well. I thought I would wait a bit longer to see what our other team mates have so far for February.

I'll start matching up our books read to our hands drawn tomorrow. That way we can get some points on the board.

I'm not sure if the Bridgerton book can be used as 9th in a series or not. If not though, I've got a 9th in series book on deck, so I'll be able to cover it if no we don't have anything else.

Perks Moderator | 599 comments Hi Jingles, Rachel and Megan - Welcome! I have PM'd all team members so hopefully everyone will check in over the next day or so

Jingles & Rachel - I have just added your emails to the spreadsheet so you have edit rights and I have also invited you both to the captains group. Here's a tip for you... each team's spreadsheet link is posted in message 2 of their discussion thread so you can check out how each team is doing their tracking (everyone has a slightly different style)! ;)

message 26: by jingles (new)

jingles Good morning, Perks! Thanks for the spreadsheet and the info. Will definitely check it out.

message 27: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Jingles - I have just finished reading The Fairest Beauty so that can be added to the books we don't have to worry about :)

message 28: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Jingles - I have put some books into the spread sheet. Things may still need to be moved around, but at least we have some points now!

message 29: by jingles (new)

jingles Rachel wrote: "Jingles - I have put some books into the spread sheet. Things may still need to be moved around, but at least we have some points now!"

Rachel - please change the reason description for Card 4. It currently reads:

'has "three" in title.

It should read:

has "four" in title

Thanks :)

message 30: by jingles (new)

jingles Never mind, Rachel. I finally figured out how to get to it. Thanks!

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments ops! I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. :)

message 32: by jingles (last edited Feb 11, 2015 12:14PM) (new)

jingles Not a problem at all my dear. Between the two of us, we got it done!

So....wonderful news team mates. The spreadsheet is all caught up to date with all the books we've read so far. I think we are somewhere around 545 points, give or take a few.

Card One is completed, and Card Two is very close. I'll update this later on towards the end of the evening, so that we can see our completed cards here very easily. I'll put it at the top of the thread.

Also, in my message #10 above, I've removed the books I had completed, and I've posted the books I have planned still to read for February (along with those I carried over from January). So that will give everyone an idea of what I've got planned to read. As I read them, I will add them to our spreadsheet, and remove them from the list.

You all are welcome to follow the same format if you like, or create your own way of tracking your books, or not track them here at all. Which ever you prefer, and works best for you.

The main thing of course is to let us know when you've finished a book so we know to add it to our spreadsheet for points. You can do that by posting a new message with the book title or the book title link. Be sure to tag it to your team shelf, as that is where we will look for verification.

If you'd like to do things differently, just let me know that as well. I'm pretty easy and am always open to suggestions and changes.

Now, I'm off to read a bit.

message 33: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Jingles - Any ideas what books to do for the reverses?

message 34: by jingles (new)

jingles What we have to do for the Reverse card, Rachel, is someone on our team has to read a book that another team member has already read.

I did a book comparison today and came up with a book or two that will work. The problem is, I don't think I can get either one of them in until March.

I'm hoping that one of our other team members will have a book they've already read in February that will fit that task.

In the mean time, if you want to compare your books to Megan and I to see if you have anything coming up that she or I one has already read, that will at least show us if you have anything potentially that you can read prior to March. We need to get the Reverse card done before March 1 though, or we are going to loose alot of points.

message 35: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Ok, Keep in mind that we can loan books on kindle to each other, that may help with the books you are talking about. Also I have read WAY more book than on my Goodreads acount, I just haven't gotten around to putting them in. So don't just trust my account for what I have read.

message 36: by jingles (new)

jingles I didn't think about the kindle loan. I am working on getting my hands on either Divergent or The Fault in Our Stars now - both of which you have read if memory serves me. The third Harry Potter book is also an option for me.

That is where my focus is now in terms of tracking down a February book. And I really need to do the audio version of whichever book I get, as that moves much quicker for me.

I found a couple books I can move from Feb to Mar, so that will free up some space for me in terms of time.

Still, it would be great if another team member comes aboard and already has something that will work.

We'll see what happens over the next couple of days.

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments I haven't read the fault in our stars, because the language is not appropriate for someone my age.

I posted on the captain's group about our missing team mates, also if we can find a link to there profiles we can message them.

message 38: by Megan (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 157 comments These should be our team mates links:

Anne
Tiina
Trisha

message 39: by jingles (new)

jingles Good deal. I'm sure we'll hear from them soon.

It must be Megan then, that has read The Fault in Our Stars. I don't know anything about it, so I wasn't aware of content.

At least we have a plan of action in place, which is really good. When I have time tomorrow, I'll take a look at Card 3 and my reading list to see what I can work on there.

message 40: by Megan (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 157 comments I'm going to try and fit in a book to work for the reverse, but I don't know how successful I'll be. I found several on your shelf, Jingles, that are ones I'd like to read so hopefully I can get one of them read before the end of the month. :)

message 41: by jingles (new)

jingles Thanks for those links, Megan. I'm on my mobile so couldn't do it right away.

Sounds like a good plan on the reverse book. And just a heads up - we have a couple more of those reverse cards further down from card 2. I want to say we may even have one card that has 2 reverses on it. Can't remember for sure.

In any case, at the very least I think we need at least three...before March 1. LOL

message 42: by jingles (new)

jingles Nope... I was wrong. We do NOT have 2 reverses on one card. But... We do have another one on card 3 and still one more on card 12.

So three reverse cards total. We can't worry about 12 right now. We need to get card 2 and 3 done first I think.

message 43: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments I agree. I think it might help if we plan books right now so we know what to read. Then we can put the points in as we finish each book. Just a suggestion.

message 44: by jingles (new)

jingles Sure, I don't mind doing that. I will plug my planned books into the spreadsheet tomorrow.

The ones on my list with the little symbol next to them - those are the ones I have to read in February. I will add those in tomorrow to the spreadsheet. The other books are the ones I will get to after I've finished the must reads for Feb. in with that, I'll work the carry over books from Jan as I can.

message 45: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Ok! Tomorrow I will put mine in the spreadsheet also

message 46: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Megan - Do you have any more books for your Harry Potter shelf, so jingles and I can put them in the spreadsheet? That way we all can just look on the spreadsheet to see what needs to be read next.

message 47: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Jingles - I see you have read To Kill A Mocking Bird. I have been meaning to read it, so that can be a reverse.

message 48: by Megan (last edited Feb 11, 2015 10:59PM) (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 157 comments I finished In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes 2/11/15.

message 49: by Megan (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 157 comments Rachel wrote: "Megan - Do you have any more books for your Harry Potter shelf, so jingles and I can put them in the spreadsheet? That way we all can just look on the spreadsheet to see what needs to be read next."

Do you mean to add books that I plan/hope to read or only the ones I've finished this month?

message 50: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Wilderman | 146 comments Yes, the books you mean to read as well. If everyone's books are on the spreadsheet, we won't end up reading books and having no where to put them on the spreadsheet, if that makes sense.
