Is it just me or is Tchaikovsky TOO prolific? :)
Since getting started, I believe we've read more of his books in this group than any other author.

We are his secret admiration society :) and yes, he is quite fruitful these last three years.

Yup, you're right. Even though I love him, I try to never nominate him and don't vote for him. But if somebody else does and he wins I gladly join in XD.
I think his quality has gone down, perhaps due to the high volume of publications. I read Shards of Earth a bit over a month ago, and was somewhat disappointed. I'll elaborate on the spoiler thread a bit later.

I just started it and an initial setup is not for my liking, but I felt the same with Peter F. Hamilton's trilogy (another Brit BTW) Night's Dawn - but it got much better as the story progressed

Kalin wrote: "Is it just me or is Tchaikovsky TOO prolific? :)"Right?? I feel like I have a mixed experience with his writing and I'm wondering if it is because he focuses on volume over quality. He already has three novellas and this novel published just this year alone.
I actually loved the opening and the set up. But I feel like I was bogged down with details throughout the rest of the book. It was hard to imagine and there would be scenes happening that I couldn't remember how we got there. Like, suddenly the characters are being interrogated by some faction...and I couldn't remember why. Just a lot of stuff happened and I would have liked to get to know the characters better.
I'll join in with all of you once I get the e-book from my library...says it will take 4 weeks to get to me but hopefully it comes in sooner!

Do you think he's got help in writing so many?

@Kateblue: nope, he has no ghostwriters. He writes that fast. I follow him on Twitter and he updates every week what he's doing.

Theoretically he can write it Twitter after he reads, what ghostwriters wrote, while painting Warhammer miniatures, but I agree that most likely (95%+) it is his writing

I'm almost done. The setting slightly reminded me of Warhammer 40k - not such grim and fantasy, but there are nuns-warriors (Adepta Sororitas), there FTL travel via warp where Chaos resides, etc.
Also, I guess we can dig into names of people and places. Say Boyarin is an equivalent of nobleman in Muscovy princedom and Voyenni mean military (both as a noun and a verb) in Russian

Ive just started - basically just the prologue. An interesting setup I assume we follow these two main characters.Seems like males are unusual for the female character?
Oleksandr - That interesting about the names. I had no idea they had meanings. Rachel - Yep. Solace is from a faction of all women. They are parthenogenetic.

I assume that planets' names are also hints/allusions, but I'm yet to decipher them. Any ideas?
