Although graphic novels are not my thing, "Allergic" by Megan Wagner, had a great story line. I made the mistake of buying the audio version of this book, NOT a good idea with graphic novels.... the sounds were so busy and Id be listening to three different sounds at once; background music, background sounds, and talking. It was very overwhelming for me but I got through it and listened twice to some chapters. The plot was great and so was the story. Although it wasn't my favorite ( comics and the mistake of an audio version at fault) I would defiantly recommend it to kids and peers. The story line was about a girl who was going to get a dog but then finds out she is very allergic. Her best friend ends up getting a dog too which hurts her feeling since she can no longer go to her house, and she felt as though she betrayed her. She tries different pets but she cant have any with fur or feathers since she allergic. But her and her best friend try a tiny pet. She hide this tiny pet in her closet but sadly it still makes her sick. Allergies is so common, I think it would help kids work through those emotions if they were going through that themselves or had a friend or family member going through it. Every kids wants a pet so no being able to have one because of allergies has to be a difficult thing to cope with and very frustrating. So even though it wasn’t my favorite and I dint find it engaging doesn’t mean I wouldn’t recommend it to others. I still definitely think its a great book!
