Seeecrets!

I really want to love this category, but at the same time, I can't think of a single book to read for it. I'm sure I'll come up with something. Basically any mystery novel would work, right?

The Listopia full of secrets is here!

message 2: by Brianna (new)

Brianna Flores (disneywitch22) | 34 comments I think The Plot can fit here.

message 3: by Katy (new)

Katy Mitchell-Jones | 9 comments Tana French's The Secret Place! The Secret Place

message 4: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 113 comments I think I'll read Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup for this category.

message 6: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1295 comments This is on my tbr 2022 list The Deepest of Secrets. It's book 7 of a mystery series from one of my favourite authors that is being published in 2022.

Mary Simpson | 5 comments The Mystery of Mrs. Christie

message 10: by Tanu (new)

message 12: by Sofia (new)

Sofia Samu | 82 comments I see The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren on the list. Can someone who has read it confirm that it fits?

Absolutely any mystery novel, I'd say, yeah, so I'm going for the next Sue Grafton Alphabet series that's on my list

message 17: by Marie-Eve (new)

Marie-Eve Mailhot (indieegirll) | 139 comments The second book in The Kiss Quotient series would work here, The Bride Test
You dont need to have read the first one to understand the plot.

I think One of Us Is Lying would work here too.
Im currently reading One Day in December and i also thnk it would qualify.
The entire Cinder series would work as well, mostly the first book, if you're into YA fantasy retellings. I know i loved the series.

I think any romance where one character is hiding their feelings for the other would work.

I also read Seven Ways We Lie which i really really liked and there's loads of secrets there.

In a totally different type of books, I would highly recommend I Wish You All the Best
Stay Gold
both about gender identity

And Let's Talk About Love which would also work for A Character on the Ace Spectrum.

I am really trying to step out of the easy murder mystery genre for this one but i am struggling. lol Maybe i'll just end up reading a book that works for there. Or go with The Unhoneymooners. I do see Gilded on the list and seeing as I really like the author, I might go with that too.

message 19: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 1028 comments Widening the playing field a little, I imagine most superhero comics/graphic novels/etc would work as one of their main hangups is secret identities :D

message 20: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 46 comments Would you count Emma by Jane Austen? There's an important secret, but I wouldn't quite say the book is *about* it.

Dubhease | 711 comments Sandra wrote: "Would you count Emma by Jane Austen? There's an important secret, but I wouldn't quite say the book is *about* it."

I would think it counts.

message 22: by Denise (new)

Denise | 418 comments The Secret History
The Goldfinch

I've read both of those and they're great. From the same author, too.

message 23: by Diana (new)

Diana (candystripelegs) | 256 comments Off the top of my head, I think I Killed Zoe Spanos, Even If We Break, and They Wish They Were Us would all work for this one.

So would We Were Liars. There is a prequel coming out soon, Family of Liars: The Prequel to We Were Liars. I'm sure it would probably fit too.

message 24: by Tassara (new)

Tassara (tassara_txt) | 13 comments i'll be reading The First Sister by linden a. lewis (which also works for the #OwnVoices SFF prompt). highly intriguing spec-fic premise and stunning cover art??? sign me up.

message 25: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2755 comments The Wheel of Time Series 1-15 Books Collection Set Pack (Book 1-14) By Robert Jordan

The Wheel of Time books are filled with secrets. My goal is to read all of the books so a lot of these books fit into multiple categories.

message 26: by Denise (new)

Denise | 418 comments I'm going to read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, reading the summary makes me think of Veronica Mars.

message 27: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hancorne (angel6500) | 15 comments In a Dark, Dark Wood
The Lying Game
The Death of Mrs. Westaway
The Turn of the Key

Most of Ruth Ware's books (thrillers) have some big secrets behind the main plotline. They are pretty good and fun to check out.

Faye | 1 comments Sofia wrote: "I see The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren on the list. Can someone who has read it confirm that it fits?"

Yes! This book has several different levels of secrets in it. It's a good lighthearted read and the audible version was well performed!

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahbastien1) | 113 comments I just picked up a book last week called The Glass Woman which seems like it would fit pretty well! The husband has a mysterious past he refuses to speak about, which seems pretty secretive to me...

message 30: by Drakeryn (new)

Drakeryn | 708 comments Harrow the Ninth is a unique take on this prompt: (view spoiler).

The Stepford Wives and Pines are both about towns with secrets.

message 31: by Yoo (new)

Yoo Hoo | 69 comments Silver Sparrow is amazing and would fit this prompt (along with book set in the 1980s , a double life and 2 POV)

The first line 'My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist' is one of my favourites.

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Nadine in NY Jones | 9960 comments Mod
I'm reading Accidentally Engaged right now for "BIPOC romance" and I'm not exactly loving it, but it's okay, AND the protagonists both have a bunch of secrets. So if you like this sort of book, this is a good choice for "secret."

message 38: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) I finished One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence on the 1st and gave it 4 stars, as the first time I read it.

message 39: by Thali (new)

Thali Ferreira (thalifm) | 7 comments Hey guys, for this one I am looking for a book that I can't put down.
A really fantastic murder mistery would be awesome, nothing from Agatha Christie though as I have her on another prompt already.
Any recommendations?

The Locked Door was a quick read that kept me up half the night (couldn't put it down). Big Little Lies is a lot longer but was a 5 star rating for me.

message 41: by Tania (new)

Tania | 692 comments So far everything I've read from Gregg Olsen seems to work for this category:

The Last Thing She Ever Did
Lying Next to Me

Also a good one - Evidence of the Affair

I think I'm going to read Montana 1948

I just read Not a Happy Family, and it was literally unputdownable for me. It was her best so far for me. So many twists and turns!

Alexandra | 36 comments I've just finished The Last Thing He Told Me . It was a pretty good read and it definitely fits in this category.

message 47: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) Only the Innocent. I was surprised this one fit the prompt but it did. There were multiple secrets in this including who the victim really was, who killed him, and the secret about who and how he was killed.

message 48: by Lisa Marie (last edited Jan 10, 2022 03:32PM) (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 177 comments I read The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty for this prompt.
The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
Absolutely great read!! And, one HUGE secret with a few little ones thrown in!!

message 49: by Jung (new)

Jung | 9 comments I just finished The Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar for this one.

It's my first 5-star read of the year and full of many, many secrets. Both the author and one of the MCs are trans Syrian Americans (the author nonbinary and the MC a young trans man) and it's an intergenerational story full of gorgeous prose and mystical elements. For readers looking for books that complete multiple PS reading challenge categories, it would also qualify for About A "Found" Family, About The Afterlife, About Gender Identity, and Has Two POV's.

message 50: by Mattie (new)

Mattie (mattienichole) | 6 comments I just finished Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter for this prompt!
