Welcome to the Empire of the Vampire Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on November 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

I don't know how I feel about the writing.. there's something that feels a bit off, and it could be that we are told stuff.. but also it's interesting, so I might get to love it. Have you read Interview with the Vampire? The way it started reminded me of that book.

So I read the first 3 chapters, and Gabriel telling the story to the vampire is really like the interview, I'm finding it interesting.
Now I'm curious about his whole existence.. also the fuck Kristoff? You'll know what I mean when you read it.

Hey This morning i managed to only get the first bit read and tonite will start Chapter 1....My first thoughts were this is a bit like IWTV...

The writing seems ok to me...I am not turned off by it at all....I am very curious about the story....I got the hard copy from the library but I also downloaded a kindle sample jut in case I want to buy it...

Hey, did you read more of the book? I made priority some other books but my hands are itching to pick this one up, so I'm gonna read a bit over the weekend.

I did some reading today....I was finishing off some other reads....

Chapter 3? Yeah that was a major what the fuck? But also I think I've seen/heard about it so I wasn't as shocked as I would've been otherwise.

I kinda put this book on low priority because we are reading it over the course of the whole month. But since I mostly finished my 1st week BRs I have more time so I read this today and finished the first book.

What do you think about Gabriel being a frailblood? I mean great stories are made from people that are just plain and simple, but also there has to be something special about him because from all the brothers from the Silver Order he's the only one that survived.

I did the same thing ....so many books to finish for challenges....i wanted them done so I could concentrate on this one....I am really enjoying this story. I stopped at end of Book 1 as well....I keep visualizing where Gabriel has gone is the same as the Winter fort in Game of Thrones...
I was surprised he was a frailblood....I thought he'd be one of the four and have stronger powers....Surprised his mom didnt tell him more....Wonder what the whole story is there with who is father is...I too agree that there is something special about him or in store for him.... also the girl he met Astrid will probably have some significance in the story....
Hoping to get more read in the coming days...

😂 that's my thinking. Finish all other and then have time to enjoy this one.. the question is when will it happen again that I don't have many BRs happening at the same time.. I mean you saw my plan for November so 😂

Got more reading done....im at book 2 ch10 red snow...i am really enjoying this story....i think the use of modern easy to understand language is making it more enjoyable....
I wonder if Voss is a known vampire figure like Dracula as i have read another book The Vampire Voss...

Checking in to see how you are coming along with the BR.

It seems I have stalled on this reading...I ve been doing reading for other challenges. Hoping to finish another BR by Monday and then I am clear to get this book finished.

I know you have tons of reads going on this month. Would you like to postpone it to December?

If you want to read it into December I don't have a problem with that... but I'll probably sit down one day and read a bigger chunk, and hopefully I'll have a few days like that and finish it. Having it read over the whole month was a great idea because it's a big book, but also it put it in the back sit because "Oh, I have the whole month to finish it" 😅

I am back reading.....im at Book 3 Ch5...
I am really enjoying it ...i find its a cross between Interview with the Vampire and The Name of the Rose.....i have ordered the audio from the library and am looking forward to that.....

I am so glad to read more about Astrid....finding the pace is picking up...on book 3 chX...
the size/length of the book is overwhelming but the story is interesting....

I picked it up 🎉 I don't know how much I'll read since it's late-ish.. BUT I picked it up, and that's something.

B2 Ch 1 😭😭😭 Oh, nooo.. not the horse 😭 Oh noo he killed him. I understand that's a smart thing to do, but daaamn why?
Also, what's with the voice? I mean you maybe found out by now.. is maybe the voice the reason he's somehow special.. or is it maybe a product of him being the last of his Order. Oooh, the voice is female..

Ch 4-5 Chloe is the little girl that we met in the beginning, right?

I stopped after chapter 5 because I'm going to sleep.. but damn, I've forgotten that the writing is good, and I also like the audio narrator; he narrated Malice and I enjoyed the voice so much there, I'm glad he's narrating it.

It counts as a BR don't worry 😄 I don't know if I'll be able to finish it by the end of the month because atm I'm behind on 3 BRs including this one.

I know i wont finish this month. I got the audiobook yesterday and am looking forward to listening to it.

I finished book 2.

The audiobook is amazing. I just love the narrator's voice.

I read only a bit because I'm still behind on other books and would like to not be as behind.. but also my teeth are killing me so atm I'm caring so little about reading.

I read chapter 4 from B3.
It's interesting that we thought that there HAS to be something special about Gabriel because now we know he's one of the greatest Silversaints.. and even after finding out he's bloodline is weak we are still naah, there has to be something.. we just didn't think that it could have something to do with hard work.. I guess with fantasy books it's easy to forget that normal normal is possible too.

thats so true....one of the greatest Silversaints but I think there will be another twist later on...

Reading it over a month was suuuuch a mistake. I saw that you finished it, congrats! :D I think I'm going to push myself to finish it, otherwise I think I'm going to procrastinate...again

Yes I agree reading over a month long was a mistake ...should have done it a week/10 days....
I pushed through and i really enjoyed it....hope you do as well....i know I will read it again before the 2nd one comes out possibly Sept 2022....

Maybe a week would've been too little but 10 yeah... I'm enjoying it, I mean I was enjoying it from the start.. just other books took priority because they had a time frame of few days to BR. And the audio narration is great, I like this voice author.

I may be only suspicious because things aren't always simple.. but is the tea spiked or something? (I'm at the part when Gabe is left with the Blanchet lady and the priest) Also, I would think that the order's business is only the order's business, and that the priest is only trying to get info out of Gabriel. 😂😂 Okay, nothing like that happened, but 😮 there might actually be something extra special with Gabriel.
😮 Nice, a new "extinguished" vampire line.. also he was drugged.

Gosh.. Gabriel barging how he's soooo good after killing the Claude boy vampire is going on my nerves so much. I get that he's the best now, although also the last, but this is the period where he just started the Order life.

Love that he is of the extinguished vampire line....he is special..

B4-7 😂 The sword telling Gabriel the recipe in the battle.. also... is he not shinning because he lost his faith? The priest's wheel is shining and he is a believer... then that would put the question why isn't he a believer anymore? Although, all of his order is wiped out that can be one, but also.. what about Astrid and Patience.. we don't know what happens with them.. I'm guessing they are dead.

B4-8 I like that we kinda get to follow to special persons in Gabriel telling the story to Francois. In his past he's the special one, and in the newer timeline it's Dior.

B4-9 😲🤯 The floating lady/vampire must me Astrid.. so I was right.. dead..

Oh, my.. is Gabriel seeing Aaron actually being scared a step towards them becoming besties? 😂 I mean.. they have things in common so...

I didn't finish the book as I planed, but I'm at least making more progress than last month 😅 I'm at Book 5, chapter 10. Although it's interesting to see his time at San Michon and how things started for him, I have to say that I'm more interested in the now story line.

I agree I enjoyed the now story line....im sure the 2nd one will do that more....

I have to say that even though I'm reading the book one and a half months I'm still enjoying it. I have this problem with reading books over a longer time period where I start disliking something, or not caring about the story as much as when I started it. So kudos for this book.

I tend to be the same the longer i read a book.....I use to have 4 books on the go but now i am really trying to concentrate on the one book at a time for that reason....

Good for you with sticking to it....i know i will reread it again next year....

I'm again behind even though I planned to read a bit every day. I think even though I like the book I can't read much of it, I don't know why tho.

I started book 6, which means back to Dior and the story line that interests me more.

*At some point before the fight that happened with Laure Voss I thought he might kill her with his gift.. and I was right.. Now in hindsight it makes sense.. because why would the Forever King want him dead? Also, I'm so closer to finishing the book but I'm still confused by the vampire titles.. like why was Laure a Prince? And I even don't know the titles of the lady that de Leon is telling his story to.

Gaaah, so many pages and still we don't get all the answers. I finally finished it, and omg it's amazing.. I mean I liked it from the beginning, but after a month and a half of reading it I still liked everything.

Hey im thinking he left the answers to be done in the sequel....we both got through....im glad we both enjoyed it....Happy holidays...

I get that Gabe's story is a longer one, and yes obvs we need something for book 2 but damn, I was liking it and wanted to read more about it.
