TBH, this is the second time I’m reading this book, so some of my thoughts might be influenced by that.
The rest of this review will have spoilers. Here are some of my thoughts as I re-read The Cousins:
* Wow. Starting off strong. I never would have had the guts to pretend like that.
* Why don’t I like Milly’s mom?
* Or Aubrey’s dad? Do all of the Story siblings suck? It’s no wonder they were cut off. Is the whole swim coach thing just to make Adam seem like a jerk, or is there more to that?
* Also, Aubrey’s BF sucks. I don’t like him.
* Ooookay. I already knew that this Jonah was a fake from the last time I read the book, but right off the bat, you can tell this Jonah is completely different from the one that was texting Aubrey and Milly.
* Oop. Good thing they’re not related. I smell romance.
* Milly, I’m beginning to sense a theme with the alcohol. Maybe ease up.
* Do they really not know this Jonah is way nicer?
* The doctor definitely knows something. I can’t remember what, but something.
* Dude that brought them to the island is gone and their grandmother absolutely had no idea they were coming. This is going to be fun.
* The lawyer sucks. Why do so many characters in mysteries suck?
* I’m not sure of the significance of the 90s flashbacks, but they’ll get to the point eventually.
* How much of Aubrey’s dad’s book is real? After seeing that beach, I need to know.
* Also, Aubrey keeps focusing on her birthmark and how they share it. Can you say foreshadowing?
* The timeline here is confusing. The way they talk all the events seem far apart, but anytime they mention the days, it has only been a few...
* So, we got the Jonah revelation and the Archer one super early, it seems like. Is anyone who they say they are?
* Aw. Sad. Doctor Baxter.
* Yay! A kiss. Woof. A scandal. Big night guys.
* Serious business now. The doctor is gone, and he left that autopsy report. What did he know?
* Oh. Milly’s poor mom. They Story siblings all still suck though. Not Archer. He’s sweet and dealing with some issues. Addiction is no joke. He didn’t deserve to be treated the same way as his siblings.
* Thank goodness Aubrey got rid of that jerk. Now Milly and Jonah need to make up and I’ll be happy.
* What’s going to happen at the house???? We’ve reached the climax, so now I’m rushing to the end.
* Why would you possibly crawl through a random open window? Doesn’t that seem a little suspicious?
* I had it mostly figured out, but who was who is what through me off. Sorry? Does that make sense? I’m trying not to spoil everything.
* Can you light a fire in the parlor? Excuse me. It’s summer. Red flags everywhere.
* Okay. I’m going to need people to be nicer to Archer. He’s too good for this world.
* Milly’s mom is improving in my eyes. I know she’s all full of trauma and whatnot, but she was terrible to everyone. She’s talking about stuff, kind of.
* Jonah and Milly are too cute. Happiness. I’m glad all of them stay in touch after the fact.
* Except JT. He can go somewhere with his dad and Aubrey’s. Rude.
