What seems like decades ago, but was really only about a decade and a half ago, I published a book called "Boomerang", and the reception was beyond anything I could have dreamed. A follow-up seemed to be the right thing to do, but between Life and Ideas That Just Didn't Work, (mostly Life) the follow-up kept getting pushed back. Until now. "Went Down to Phoenix" features some of the same characters readers love in "Boomerang", including Ted Hogwood and Jerry Kwiatkowski, two down on their luck jazz players who somehow get involved in international intrigue. In this new book, they're caught up in a plot to assassinate the President of the United States, a person neither of them has any use for. As a matter of fact, most people can't understand how the guy got to be president in the first place. So saving the president isn't what is motivating them. Ted is in a desperate race to save Sarah, his beloved Gibson L5-CES, and Jerry wants to impress the new woman in their lives, one Ali Nelson. Also on a collision course with either Destiny or Doom are Director of Intelligence James Fatherday, Leslie the pale assassin also known as The Ghost, and a Woman of Mystery. Add in various elected officials, presidential sycophants, a Russian with a grudge, and an ageless individual of eternal notoriety whose methods and motives are anybody's guess.
"Went Down to Phoenix" can be preordered for Kindle right now for delivery on November 30, 2021. The paperback is also coming soon.
