Grainne | 1386 comments Hi, I am curious if A Time for Mercy would work for a mystery that deals with a crime against women. There is a large part that deals with domestic violence. I included the details in the spoiler. (view spoiler)

Janice (jamasc) | 60310 comments Ask yourself if the crime is against a woman because she's a woman. From the blurb, it doesn't sound like it is. Was the purpose of the murder - Drew killing a deputy - more vigilantism? If so, I don't think it fits.

It was definitely partly a crime against a woman. The deputy was committing sexual assault against a woman. The family lived with the deputy so Drew knew him and lived with him.

Janice (jamasc) | 60310 comments I'm going to say no. Sorry. It's not what I had in mind. There are so many themes in murder mysteries that I wanted to differentiate them. Police procedure, courtroom dramas (which this sounds like given that it's Grisham), So I wanted the main story to be about a crime committed by a man against a woman (think Jack the Ripper). It wasn't to be about a person who murdered Jack the Ripper because he thought he deserved to die.
It wasn't even to be about a murder of a woman unless the murder was motivated by misogyny. The deputy was male, so doesn't qualify.
