How do you put down your ideas for a book when you start to have a idea for one, but don't know how to expand it past the first chapter or two?

For myself, I file the idea into my brain. And continue to think of possible ideas and outcomes during the day. When I have enough, I will start writing and see where the story leads if it does. If not and I don't feel a connection to the story, I leave it for another time.

But what do you do when you have several in your brain and they begin to run together. Should I write down the main ones that stand out to keep them straight so they don't interfere with what I'm currently working on? If so, what do you think are the pertinent info I should write down?

write down the plots and characters. Even though the plots and synopsis can change during writing.

Thank you Tristan. I'll keep that in mind and start a small notebook to write down my ideas and characters, maybe I can come up with something we can work on later on.
