The youngest girl is skilled in piano playing and I believe they spend quite a lot to get her lessons? The younger boy's name is possibly Sammy, and he misbehaves at home but is usually good at school. The mom is somewhat in the picture, but the dad is gone? The one scene I remember vividly: Grandmother and girl go to the city to buy gifts for siblings, end up buying girl clothes she has not asked since she's too busy taking care of her family, including jeans, a new bra, and they pick out yarn for new sweaters. Perhaps a series? I was made to read this book in 5th-6th grade, so over a decade ago maybe in 2008? It's not new in any capacity. Thank you in advance!

Liz's suggestion. Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voigt. Sure looks like it!A review mentions:
"This was a wonderful second installment to the Tillerman Cycle.
When we last left Dicey, James, Maybeth and Sammy - they were beginning new lives, living on their grandmothers farm."
This is the second book (of 7) of the Tillerman Cycle.
