I would always suggest Anne of Green Gables and anything by Richard Wagamese if you can find his books.
Great suggestion!! I love Richard Wagamese. Keep an eye on some of the threads, there’s always great book suggestions. Enjoy the group!
There are so many to suggest. Can you give us an idea of what sort of books you enjoy reading, Yanlaptak? Adventure? Mystery? Historic? I agree with Susan and Sarah about Richard Wagamese. He is such a good writer.
Other authors that may be of interest are Robertson Davies, Timothy Findley or Douglas Coupland.
I enjoy Miriam Toews' books.
If you enjoy fantasy stories, Guy Gavriel Kay may be an author you'll enjoy.
Thanks everyone! What I want is books which everyone Canadian must read.
Except Anne, I never heard of the names of authors and books which you have mentioned.
I shall read Richard Wagamese’s “Indian Horse” in 2022.
I don't know that I'd classify it as a "must read" but I think Extraordinary Canadians: Stories from the Heart of Our Nation is a good suggestion for people looking for an easy read that will teach them a little more about their country. It was written by Peter Mansbridge the former chief correspondent for CBC News and anchor of The National. It was published at the end of 2020.
It is a non-fiction book that is made-up of a collection of short stories about interesting Canadians.

Welcome to Canada! We have MANY wonderful authors, but if you want suggestions for books that every Canadian should read, my first recommendation would be
Five Little Indians
by Michelle Good.I hope you'll consider it. It's a tremendous, very moving novel, based on the sad reality that so many Indigenous Canadians—residential school survivors—live every day.
I am reading Fall on Your Knees as I’m seeing the two part theatre version starting this weekend and I think it’s one of the greatest Canadian novels I ever read. For everyone who has read it the stage version is over six hours long!
