Lin (linnola) | 557 comments Traveling Around the World in 2022

I started a new challenge. It’s an Around the World travel experience. I’m going to pick a country for each letter of the alphabet, starting with Australia for A.

I plan to learn about the country by multi media forms... travel blogs, guidebooks, documentaries, YouTube etc. My goal is to learn without it feeling like a college course. My interest in a country can include culture, cuisine, religion, music, geography, size compared to the US and my favorite, animals.

I will try to read a book relating to the country, depending on what’s available from the library. This will probably reduce the number of books I read in 2022 due to reading other formats.

195 countries plus Caribbean Islands:

Antarctica - How the Penguins Saved Veronica - March 2022
5 - Angola - Beautiful by Danielle Steel - June 2022
9 - Australia- Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty - December 2021
14 - Bangladesh- To Bangladesh with Love by Andrew Kivistik - December 2021
22 - Bosnia - People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks - January 2022
30 - Cabo Verde - January 2022
43 - Cuba - The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba - February 2022

M - Malaysia - The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo - February 2022
S - South Korea - The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See - January 2022

Lin (linnola) | 557 comments Book 1 of 2022!!

The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

A friendship set on the South Korean island of Jeju. The book gives a wonderful detailed description of the female divers called Haenyos. The strength of these women amazed me.
The second half of the book is set during the Korean War and aftermath, which is very difficult to read.

This is the first book I’ve read by Lisa See. I plan to check out her other books.

I’m using this book for ATY #1 - main character’s name is Young-sook and PS #3 - a book set in a nonpatriarcal society.

This book can fit a few other prompts - A book set on a different continent (Asia), historical fiction, a book related to fauna, a book set an a rural area, on or near a body of water.

Good read, cute story.

This was my fourth book by Reid and the best one yet.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was good, Daisy Jones & The Six not so much, and Malibu Rising last year was good.

I’m using this book for ATY #19 & PS #47 - alternate/parallel reality.

The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a cute Hallmark type Christmas book, totally clean romance. I like books with twins so that was a good story line.

This is the first book I’ve read by this writing duo.

ATY #41 - Theme of food, the book was set in a bakery and a cooking show.

Bring Your Baggage and Don't Pack Light by Helen Ellis - ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This is a nonfiction book of essays from the humor genre, which none of those three things are my normal reading. But isn’t that a point of the challenge?

I did enjoy the book, even laughed during some. The book is a 2021 Goodreads Choice Nominee. When I’m in the mood for a little humor, I may check out her other books.

ATY # 3 - 22 or more letters. It could also work for a book less than 220 pages.

Cute story but nothing too exciting. I read a lot of books centered around dogs, so it was worth the read.
This is the first book I've read by Nick Trout. There is a second book to the series but I don't think I will continue.

I'm using this book for PS #32 - A book with a quote from a favorite author on the cover. It could be used for a couple of ATY prompts, cover without a person, or small town.

This was an interesting book. Each song had the lyrics and a little story related to the song. Their were a few songs that I went to YouTube to watch. The song with Sylvester Stallone was absolutely hilarious. The list of artist she has worked with is amazing.

Lin (linnola) | 557 comments Book 13 review- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was too late last night when I finished this book to write a review. I’m still thinking WOW! The beginning of the book was a slow start for me but once it got started it was hot.

At one point in the book my thought was it’s good, not great but it’s better than Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. Than a woman walked into the book store looking for the Life After Life book!

The second half of this book was great. I am very stingy with five star ratings, it has to have an element of surprise or some other greatness. The ending of this book was fantastic,

This book can be used for quite a few prompts.

This was a cute, funny read. It was full of "adult kid" family drama, (which is a real issue), handled with a lot of humor. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this book, because I was not a fan of the the Shopaholic series.

If I Could Turn Back Time by Beth Harbison - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a light read. I enjoyed the story of a 37 year-old waking up as her 18 year-old self. I always said I never wanted to be a teenager again. With humor, laughs, nostalgia and a few tears this book shows why.

This is the first book I've read by Beth Harbison. I just grabbed a couple of her books during my library stroll.

ATY #14 - A book with fewer than 5000 ratings.
PS #36 - a book you know nothing about

If anyone is looking for a book for alternate reality without it being Sci-Fi, this would work.

One Less Problem Without You by Beth Harbison - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed the book, a story of three women at different points in their life.
Trigger warning (view spoiler)

ATY #12 - A book related to glass
PS #23 - A book with a recipe in it

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart - ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I read a couple of YA books a year. This book had the element of surprise that I really like.

ATY #6 - A source of light on the cover
PS #25 - A book about a secret
