If you plan to spend some of your holiday season in readathon reading mode, here is a folder in which to hang out and share your plans and progress. When will you be reading? Are you reading a themed TBR or trying to finish incomplete books, or ??? Will you be reading more or less the whole time or are you working extra and barely getting any reading time till after the holidays? Do you plan to read or party on New Years Eve? Inquiring minds want to know!

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments I have a December book bingo I’m doing and have one for January as well. I never go anywhere without a book

message 3: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 129 comments woot woot! winter break starts for me tomorrow at 2pm (after I get done with the physical therapist) and I have a hot date with my kindle...ha!

message 4: by Lynnette (last edited Jan 02, 2022 08:54PM) (new)

Lynnette | 337 comments Two week vacation starts Friday so this is excellent timing. I’m hoping to finish off the books that remain half finished. I surpassed my reading goal by three books so far but a nice round(?) 5 seems better. I keep getting books from the library. Is this what addiction feels like? I’m excited to lounge and read.

Finished:
The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki
The Judge's List (The Whistler, #2) by John Grisham
Fuzz When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments I have more reading time now than I've had for the last few weeks...for now. I exceeded my goal by 2 books so far, but I still have 2 books that I would really like to finish before year end. I haven't started either one yet, but I will be reading every free moment I have so I think I can do it!

If I don't have plans, I read on NYE. This year will depend on my progress for the 2 books.

I’m participating in 10 readathons so I’m hoping I will be doing lots of reading :D

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 284 comments My school's winter break is weird this year, so I'm actually still working until the 22nd! Then I go back on January 6th. And my sister will be in town with my niblings for the first half of my break. It's gonna make hitting my year-end goal a challenge!

Basically my goal until New Year's Eve will be to keep finishing a book a day to hit my goal. After that my goal will be to be on vacation (i.e. read a lot) and get a strong start on my reading goal for 2022. :)

message 11: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (michiganpal) | 4 comments I plan to do a good amount of reading between the usual housekeeping and other necessary stuff. I think my last day of my one-day-a-week teaching thing for the year will be this coming Monday.

message 12: by Stacie Davis (new)

Stacie Davis | 2 comments So excited for this! My last day of work is Monday until the new year, so I plan to catch up on library books while snuggling with our cats and foster kittens. Have just ordered the yummy snacks so I'll be prepared :) We never go out on New Year's Eve so there will probably be reading that evening too.

message 13: by Luiza (new)

Luiza Sandru (luizasandru) | 17 comments My Christmas and NYE plans were unfortunately cancelled so I’ll be spending some chill time with my boyfriend. I have so many books that I started but haven’t finished this year, so I’ll definitely focus on wrapping them up

Yes. I will join in. Probably starting tomorrow night. I have two Jane Austen fanfic books and one Agatha Christie book I would like to read. Company would be good. See you all soon!

message 15: by Vivienne (new)

Vivienne (vivienneor) I am very pleased to join in. I review for NetGalley and have 40 ARCs for January!

So my plan was already to get a chunk of these read and reviewed over the holidays.

So having the motivation of an informal readathon will be perfect.

message 16: by Julie (new)

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments Currently continuing We Were Liars

message 17: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (kaitlinmcgowan) | 8 comments I will be working for the holiday weeks (I waitress) but I plan on spending my down time reading rather than watching tv. I have 6 books to finish for my 2021 goal of 120. I am halfway through Alaska by James Michener (which at 850 pages should really count for 2 or 3) and halfway through The Hearts Invisible Furies. May have to grab some quick, easy reads to finish out the year and hit my goal.

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments I started a small business this year and I thought I was prepared for my first holiday rush, but I was so very wrong!! I'm going to take advantage of any free time between orders to read since I didn't have any downtime for several weeks. I am hoping to finish 4 books...1 is to review and 3 are to finish a challenge. If I miraculously finish all 4 books before year end, I will read books that I started but set aside.

To finish:
We're Going on an Elf Hunt (about 1/4 through it)
The Question of Red (about 1/3 through it)
Winter Street (buddy read that I'm starting today)
Regretting You

Other current reads pile:
New Kingdom
John Eyre: A Tale of Darkness and Shadow
The Chronicles of Royal High: Dragon's Wrath
The Other Einstein
Atonement
Water for Elephants
Invincible Summer
This Life or the Next

I was planning on starting some serious reading today, but there was a deep sea dive all last night and this morning, and in a few hours I'll be busy trapping cats for TNR, ... AND I was handed a sick kitten yesterday that a friend of a friend found. I am finishing an audiobook today though, Why Read the Classics?, by Italo Calvino, and maybe The Vulcan Academy Murders, by Jean Lorrah. I'm also stacking together all the books I have started but not finished this year, so I can finish as many as I can before 2022. I hate having lots of carry-overs.

message 21: by Gnoe (last edited Dec 18, 2021 10:31AM) (new)

Gnoe Graasland | 31 comments Just MAYBE I'll be able to make my GR-goal... I have 3 more to go, which isn't many for some but I sure won't get there without reading more than usual. Hubs and I had already planned on spending Christmas Eve reading when I heard of the informal Dewey :-D For the first time this month I now think there's a chance I'll reach my goal after all!

(I'm not picking up shorter books just to be able to check numbers off)

ETA: Oooooops I need to finish FOUR before the end of the year to reach my goal.... Can I???

message 22: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 3 comments My plan is to read for At least 1/2 hour a day until Christmas. I’m aiming for more but I have so much to do. After Christmas I will try for at least two hours each day until I return to work on Jan. 3. I would like to finish all the books I have started by the end of the year and read at least one of my new books. Hopefully I get some for Christmas. If not I’ll have to buy some.

message 23: by Julie (new)

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments I was able to get a decent amount of reading done yesterday. Loving my book

message 24: by Julie (new)

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments Finished We Were Liars! On to Miracle on the 17th Green by James Patterson & Peter De Jonge

message 25: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 325 comments I'm definitely planning to spend some of the holiday weeks reading. Work-life boundaries are pretty much non-existent in my job, but I'm trying to get as much as possible done now so I can relax a little more over the holidays. I want this informal readathon to be low pressure, so I'm planning to just work off of my December game stack and regular TBR.

message 26: by Julie (new)

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments I’m now onto Horseplay. I forget the author’s full name but her first name is Judy

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy | 15 comments I am stoked to do some reading! I have 14 or so books I would like to complete for December. One is nearly complete, but the list goes as follows:
Little Women (2 h left on my audiobook)
Fahrenheit 451
Anna Karenina
Wicked
Dorothy Must Die
A Christmas Carol
Leviathan
10,000 Roses
Tuesdays with Morrie
Boundaries
Tudor Kings and Queens
From Cover to Cover
American Literature 101
7000 Years of Jewelry

I am nearly commitment free for the rest of the year now that classes are done so I believe I can finish at least 10 to round off 2021 with 50 books counted for.

message 28: by Julie (new)

Julie McKenzie | 6 comments I skipped Horseplay because I did not like the super small print or the writing style. I got a lot of reading done today though

message 29: by Gnoe (last edited Dec 22, 2021 02:55AM) (new)

Gnoe Graasland | 31 comments I just finished De onzichtbaren (The Unseen). Choosing (and starting) my next read tomorrow morning! Really enjoying this low-key readathon :-D

Gnoe Graasland | 31 comments Woke up this morning and started a book by Luc De Keersmaecker that I cannot yet find in the GR database: De Tour de France van Nelson .

De Tour de France van Nelson Het spannende en grappige reisverhaal van een man en een jonge ezel op de Via Francigena by Luc De Keersmaecker

[Edited to add link to book page I created.]

For variety I will also be reading Brandoffer (The Puppet Show) by M.W. Craven.

Brandoffer (Washington Poe, #1) by M.W. Craven

message 31: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments I just finished my first book of the readathon, Winter Street. I have made a lot of progress on We're Going on an Elf Hunt and will finish it tomorrow.

message 33: by Amber (new)

Amber (ambersworld08) | 1 comments I am a bit late to the party but thats ok. I'll just say I'm fashionably late! Really its just that today was my last day of work before the holidays and I don't go back until the 4th! I am planning to use this time to get some much needed reading done. I am planning to finish The Gilded Ones (The Gilded Ones, #1) by Namina Forna and The Shadow of What Was Lost (The Licanius Trilogy, #1) by James Islington for sure. I am also trying to decide on a couple other short books to read to try and finish my goodreads challenge.

message 34: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedster6) | 79 comments I am planning to read more ans finish🏁 war and peace by Leo Tolstoy

message 35: by Stacie Davis (new)

Stacie Davis | 2 comments Hoping to get a lot of reading done today! Just started Under the Whispering Door and really captivated so far. Last week has been a whirlwind so I am happy to settle in for some reading today.

message 37: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 265 comments Since my last update, I have finished:
We're Going on an Elf Hunt
Exit West
Surviving the City
America, Vol. 1: The Life and Times of America Chavez
Regretting You

Tomorrow I hope to make progress on New Kingdom and start my ARC of At The End of Everything.

I'm super happy with the progress I've made so far! I've been taking advantage of all the free time I have right now because I know it won't last much longer.
