Insomnia allowed for massive amounts of reading time. I think this is a personal best in page count…never to be duplicated!

Number books read is 20 (three of those were box sets/omnibus) in addition I finished a box set that I started in December…not counted in stats for the month.

Don’t think I will ever read 3 box sets in a month again.

Plans for February about 20 books (only 1 is a box set) This includes some short story and essay collections, which I rarely read because as soon as I get invested in a story it is over and on to the next one.

Insomnia has its hidden benefits I guess. I hope you have a great sleeping and reading month in February.

It was a great month to catch up on some old books sitting on my TBR. I am disappointed to have started Solovyov and Larionov for the third time but stopped at the third chapter. I just can not get invested in the story. Oh well lots of other reads….

Not certain about March reads but going to aim for completing two box sets along with my PIFM, color and genre challenges. This month’s genre is mystery and thrillers. Mysteries aren’t my favorites but going to aim for completing five.

Lea (leaspot) | 3710 comments What a great month, Beth. I'm so impressed by the number of pages that you tackle every month.

I would wear a t-shirt that says Insomnia is only good for reading. :-) It's the only silver lining to that frustration when you cannot fall asleep.

I find that reading doesn't help when I can't sleep, it seems to engage my brain, I have to watch TV, even though it goes against all advice! Mind you, I am that stubborn person who just lies closing their eyes in the hope of sleeping rather than doing something that will help make me sleepy! I used to wake up early on a Sat, and do half an hour of housework, watch a bit of TV, then go back to sleep.

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) | 475 comments April update,

Per my usual MO my reading went off track with the start of spring. I am ok with that because I found two new series I liked enough to read them in their entirety. It was YA and graphic novels month but I ended up with less GN and an excessive YA list.

Read my PIFM but did not get to all my color challenge. Oh well still a great month of books. I also got to read two books I won in GR giveaways.

Number books read is 20 (1 box set), 10 new authors!

Considering Shirley but not sure if I want to commit to a Charlotte Brontë book this month.

Excellent month. I hope you do eventually try Shirley. I loved it. I've enjoyed every Charlotte Bronte I've tried and this was no exception. Good luck in May.

Second month in a row I didn’t finish my color challenge. My genre challenge was Literary Fiction/ Classics and I just wasn’t in the mood when I tried to start a few. I did finally read The Master and Margarita and loved it!

I caught up on a few series and finished a 12 volume box set so it was still a great month of reading. Think I am going to move my LitFic/Classics next year to February or March and see if I can keep on track.

I also managed to hit 50 books read in my Cleaning out My TBR challenge. That was my goal for 2022 (all books were on my TBR at least a year). This is the first year I actually hit my goal so I am going to raise the number. As of May 31 I have read a total of 100 books, 9 were boxed sets! In this respect insomnia rocks📚

Number books read for May= 21 (1 box set), 9 new authors!

Total number of pages read is 9,313🤯

June is my Non Fiction month. I have a pile to select from so just going to start a book and if I don’t like it within a chapter move on. I did just get a book of essays I won from a GR giveaway last month so definitely reading that. I also have a ton of romance books this month so it will hopefully be a nice balance. Plus I need a break from YA fantasy/ SciFi since I have been sucked into 5 series I had not planned to read this year.

Lea (leaspot) | 3710 comments Congrats - looks like you had a good month / year, having read 100 books already! Glad to hear you liked The Master and Margarita. I read that a few years ago, and was surprised by it. I think I rated it 3 stars though. Best wishes for your Non Fiction month - sounds like a great theme!

June dragged, worst reading month so far so this year. I delayed writing an update. My first book of July was great so decided I needed to reflect on the disappointment of June because the second July book is looking promising and I don’t want June’s “ bad book mojo” interrupting my momentum.

I managed 14 books (13 and a DNF) yet so many were lack lustre. I had planned several Non Fiction books(my genre challenge of the month) but chose a statistic laden The Economics of Prohibition, while interesting I had to dust off my economic and statistics “hats” and power on. Good book but definitely not light summer reading, lol. The DNF was also non fiction but I managed a book of essays that was enjoyable. I had hoped for 5-6 NF books but oh well.

June was also the third month in a row I didn’t finish my color challenge (got to 3 of 5). Unfortunately this was also the first month I did not finish a box set, again my selection just didn’t hold my interest.

Number books read for June = 14 , 12 new authors!
No translated books but I would have liked an Economics tutor this month because at times it felt like a foreign language and a doctoral thesis. (I’m rusty because I loved economics in undergrad and grad school)

July is looking good. The Genre challenge is game month so we were given four tasks, that allows for fiction and non fiction.

Currently reading The Son of the House and When It Falls Apart. Looking forward to:

Editorial Wild Oats, can’t go wrong with Twain
The Nineties
Strange the Dreamer series
Firekeeper's Daughter
The Gulf: The Making of An American Sea
The Six of Crows Duology Boxed Set

Hope everyone has a safe, not too hot, great reading July!

Lea (leaspot) | 3710 comments I'm glad that July is looking good, sorry that June was so lack luster. I have Firekeeper's Daughter on my list too and I just finished the Six of Crows duology. I hope you like it as much as I did. Find Layla sounds like such a hard book to read. I added it to my list, but I'll have to wait until I'm in the right mood for it. Probably not going to add the economics book, though. Onward to July! :-)

A much better reading month overall; my big regret is not being able to finish The Son of the House. I thought with the start of August Hoopla would download book correctly. Unfortunately still the same glitch, but the local librarian has contacted Hoopla tech to figure out why the ebook crashed when they uploaded the audio book. Fingers crossed because I was invested in the story when the ebook imploded.

Number books read for July = 19 1/2 and one audio ; 9 new authors (darn hoopla prevented double digits 🤣)! One translated book, We Had to Remove This Post which was a very good read.

The first time in 4 months I got my color challenge books read!

August is catch up month. I have several GR giveaways to read and I need to get one or two boxed sets. Lilith's Brood: The Complete Xenogenesis Trilogy by Octavia E. Butler I think.

I think your June was much better than any month I've had. At least you read books. I think my June (or was it May??) was 1-2 books. I think I even had a month of reading nothing.

I do want to say that everyones view of having a bad month are so varied, so I do NOT want to discount what you felt. I get it, i really do.

I do love that everyone that has been reading Strange the Dreamer, are really loving it. Glad this past month was better for you. :)

For me the number of books read is not important but did I enjoy what I read. I’m getting to old to waste time on books I do not enjoy.
So I was frustrated that 1/3 of what I read I didn’t like yet I finished because I was hoping for improvement. I hate to DNF. It makes me feel like I didn’t give the author a chance by quitting around half way in to the book.

I had a DNF with Necroscope. My first one in a long time; I just couldn't do it.
