Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments Hi team. I´m Helke from Germany. Half the team are already my friends but I hope at the end we all will be good friends. I live near Berlin with my hubby and my kids. I love to read and if I didn´t need to go to work I would spend whole days reading.
Hope you all enjoy this challenge. As a challenge addict I´ve played quite a few others too but this one is my favorite as you nearly can read every book you like and still make it fit for the challenge.

So please for the sake of the whole team tell us who you are, what you like to do and what books you like to read. Please accept friend requests from each others as we might need to take a look at each others book shelves.

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments This is the link to our spread sheet. (The one above from Uno Pixie is only for the captains, sorry.)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

You can take a look and send me a pm with your email adress. I´ll give you editing rights then. The sheet for February is already set up. So you can look at the cards we will need to fill in. If you need help with working these form of spread sheet please don´t hesitate to ask me or Gustaf. We are glad to help.
The sheets for March and April are the one from last year. I left them unchanged so you can take a look at what it might look like filled out.

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments How to post books
We don´t need you to post a selection post. Please go to the ss insted and fill your book into a slot where it fits.

But we need you to do a completion post like the following:

Completed
Six Ways from Sunday by Mercy Celeste
227 pages
read: 02/05/20

1: #1 in series
6: title
9: set in New Orleans

This way we can see wich cards your book could also fit if needed.
Please don´t get angry if you don´t find a book where you put it. Sometimes Gustaf and I swap the books around to fill in for more cards. F.e. if you put a book for a 3 and we see it will also work for a 5 and we need a book fitting a 3 and a 5 for a Draw 2 card we will put it there.
Or we will put it in one of the first hands to finish them as we only get points for the finished hands from hand 1 down. F.e. if we have finished the hands 1, 2, 3 and 5 we will only get points for the hands 1, 2 and 3 as we have not finished hand 4.

And last we have a colour code. Please mark your book in your colour as you put it into the ss. After completing the book and posting it here please go back to the ss, add your read date and change the colour to yellow. After Gustaf or I added the book to the captains ss we will finally change the colour to green. This way we can easily see wich books you have newly finished that have to be added to the captains ss and we can see what has been done already. It saves us a lot of trouble and time if you all keep to this colour system. Thank you.

I know it is a lot to take in especially for a newby but don´t worry we will all help each other and over time you will find it easy.

Gustaf | 553 comments Hi team!
I'm Gustaf, 26 years old and I live in Stockholm, Sweden with my husband and our dog Toby. I'm your co-captain for this round. Just as Helke, I already have quite a few friends on the team. I can't wait to get to know all of you better during this challenge. I read a lot of books. Like a lot, a lot. So I can only warn you that you'll see me posting a lot.
When I'm not reading I'm usually at work lol. I work with style and costumer advice for people wearing glasses.
Last year was my first time doing this challenge but Helke and I co-captained that round as well. Except for that, I'm a challenge junkie and I usually have quite a few challenges going on at the same time.

Franziska (chaoschild) | 136 comments Dear all,
I am Franziska, also from Germany and this is my third or fourth time playing UNO. It's one of my favorite challenges :)
I have a little daughter (1.5 years old) and work in the administration of a university and try to finish my PhD in Economics. And in my free time I loooove to read (but as you can imagine, I am not reading that much as e.g. before my pregnancy). My favorite genres are mystery, thriller, ya and a little bit of fantasy.
I am looking forward to playing with you all!

message 18: by Alekhya (new)

Alekhya Suma (alekhya_suma) | 106 comments Hi all.
I'm Alekhya, 24 years old, from India. I am currently working from home and though initially, it had meant I had more time to read, my work schedule has been extremely hectic lately. Hence, I gave a very modest estimate of 3 books a month.
I love reading so much that there have been instances when I took leave and stayed back home to finish a really engrossing book. I mostly read fiction (any genre is good as long as it's fiction). I have some trouble getting the same interest in non-fiction but I have discovered some really good ones last year and I intend to keep trying.
Last year was my first time doing this challenge and I loved it. Looking forward to another great challenge!

message 19: by Helke (new)

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments So glad to meet you both. Nice that you both have played before so you won't have trouble with the meaning of the cards and know about the minichallenges.

message 20: by F. (new)

F. | 134 comments Hi all. I'm Fiona and live in Christchurch, New Zealand. My husband and I are both retired but neither of us is 65 yet (Hubby gets there in April). We have one son who lives not far away and are servants to George (a black mini-schnauzer) and Tilly (a tortoiseshell cat).
I haven't played before and looking at the spreadsheet didn't help. Didn't know that one book could be used multiple times within a hand, so it looks like I might need a few directions and help steering!!
Looking forward to it though as it looks a fun game.

From my experience, it takes a bit to get all the rules, but it gets easier while actually playing it! I remember being there in my first UNO and I just read books and was happy when the captains put my books where they fit... :D I didn't get everything at that time either.

Janeylou | 1255 comments Hi all, i got here eventually
I know most of you , and Franziska..we are on the same team again ( i hope we have as much fun as last year).
So just lauren and Alekhya to get to know 😊😊

A question about the SS as we didnt have one last year ( we post all that applied to book and captain put wherever ) do we have to fill SS and do a post or just the SS
and do we put in what we want to read or just enter when we have read something

EDITED..just read your main post Helke, so when we post in this thread we only need to put the one card that the book applies to according to SS NOT all the other cards it would work for

I would like for you to post all the cards the book fits. It is a huge stress for me to find out which cards a book could also fit you don't do it. As you read the book you know best which cards fit.

I can copy and paste from your completion post into the ss if necessary.

message 27: by Helke (new)

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments @all
At times during this challenge I'll be super busy with work. So please try to go these steps for your books:
1. If you find a book you would like to read go to the ss and find a place for it there. You don't need to fill all informations in at that time. A title with a link and your name will be enough.
2. After you finished your book please make a completion post. Post all possible cards the book could fit with the reason it fits the cards f.e. card 1 because book is #1 in series.
3. Go to the ss, find your book and enter the read date in the correct column. If you like to do it also enter the info about the other cards the book fits. Then change the line colour to yellow so Gustaf and I know there was a new book completed.

All that have played before are familiar with this I think and Janeylou you and F are wizzards with the ss so you will know it in time. I know I sound very peculiar about this but believe me after only half a month you will grow fond of this system too. Especially if you are a competitive player.😁

Off course you can put down several books.
Can you do links on your post? That would help. But it is OK if not.

Ive just fiddled around and worked out how to use tineye and this book doesnt have yellow mentioned once 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️..oranges/violets /browns ..so although it looks yellow , id best leave it

It is not required to use tin Eye. If the team thinks it is a colour you can use it. Tin eye is a last resort. But you are right to not use it if you are unsure.

message 39: by Alekhya (new)

Alekhya Suma (alekhya_suma) | 106 comments I put down 3 books but am more than willing to accommodate/modify them as I have books for almost anything.

Also, @Helke I think the points formula in the SS checks the 'reason' field instead of the 'date' field? Can you look into it, please?
Thanks!

Hi Janeylou, nice to be on the same team again! :)

In the rules it says that books must have more than 100 pages. And for the reverse card it doesn't matter when the other person from the team has read the book - just that she/he has read it.

message 44: by Janeylou (new)
