Such a great read - I'm looking forward to his next offering :)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10003 comments Disher has a real talent for Aussie country towns and realistic characters. Anything he writes goes onto my TBR. I loved this one!

Suzie | 481 comments Always enjoy his writing, as his description of Aussie settings often evoke fond memories

Catsalive | 1504 comments Love his writing style, it's so easily accessible. Not too happy about the rapid ending, it feels unfinished.

I knew Noel had to be up to something back then otherwise he wouldn't have been mentioned at all, but our eyes were very carefully drawn away from him. I'm not sure about Liam - if he was so sure his father had killed his mother, why didn't he mention seeing him sooner, might have saved them all some grief.

I didn't really like any of the characters, even Charlie gave me the irrits, but I wouldn't say 'no' to seeing what he gets up to next.

Andrea | 2176 comments One thing I really liked about this book was the way he incorporated COVID into the storyline. I think it was clever to restrict it to those early months when we were still having a (national) universal experience of the pandemic. There was a distinct point in time when that universality went by the wayside, and I’ve seen it bring other authors undone.

Felt much the same, I've enjoyed other Disher books, but yes, the ending was wound up so quickly. Seeing Charlie again? I guess he evolved a fair bit during the story. And, as for good old Noel!
