I read tons of poetry last year but wasn't quite up to speed with reviews. I'll try to do better in 2022. I must admit that I go through phases of frustration with analyzing poetry. Some of my books will be a carry-over from 2021.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Nina. No need to "analyze," anyway. Comments are good enough! Happy New Year! (And maybe this year I'll resolve to track my poetry reads here... I was woefully slack last year, but I'm reading, I'm reading!)
Nina, thought you might enjoy this article: https://bookriot.com/the-joy-of-not-r...
When a leisure activity starts to feel too much like work, my personal strategy is "make it faster." E.g., when laboring over a drawing for hours stops being fun, I'll do nothing but high-speed drawings for a while until drawing becomes fun again. Lately I haven't been able to get joy from laborious multi-paragraph book reviews (either reading them or writing them), so I just quickly jot down a few sentences per book I read. If it isn't fun for me to write, I figure it isn't fun for others to read. Wishing you pleasurable reading to your heart's content in the new year!

This article is terrific, Jenna. Much of it resonates- often I find that reading a book knowing I will review it takes some of the joy from the reading. One of the things I've tried to break this cycle is to intentionally not take notes during the initial reading. I let the poetry wash over me and sink in.
