Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments I'm back :)

I achieved Mt Ararat in 2021 (after failing my target of 60 in 2020), so I'm back again.

I have 115 paid-for unread books on my Paperwhite, plus 203 free books and I don't want to know how many stored in the cloud.

I sorted my paper books yesterday (the dust got me sneezing). I didn't count the unread books, but there must be at least 50 ... on that basis, it would be good to get up more than Ararat in 2022!

Let's get started ...

1. You Belong to Me by Tari Faris

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 2. Operation Back to School by Elizabeth Maddrey

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 3. A Half Made Whole by K Leah
4. All At Once by Lindsay Harrel (which I discovered was a re-read but it still counts as I have no memory of reading it the first time)
5. Hook Your Readers by Tamar Sloan

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 6. When Love Returns by Lorana Hoopes - DNF at 71% because the hero keeps getting dumber, and the other woman subplot makes no sense.

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 7. Hanging' by a Moment by Susan May Warren and Andrea Christensson

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 8. The Happiness Code - various authors. I'm sure it's very nice and uplifting, but it's probably a book to dip in and out of, not read from start to finish given the authors were all saying "keep a gratitude journal" in different words.

And call me shallow, but starting with an author making a big deal about his visit to "Anchor Wat" did not give a good first impression (it's Angkor Wat).

DNF but it's off the to-read pile.

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 9. Artistic Licence by Elle Pierson - another DNF, probably because I didn't know or care what the heroine wanted (or the hero).

10. His Longing Heart by Jan Thompson - I usually like this author's books, but this is a billionaire romance (only it's the heroine who is a rich trust fund baby), and too much was from her POV (and seemed to be trying to say she was nice even though she was loaded, despite not giving many concrete examples of why she was so nice). Also, I have trouble relating to or caring for someone whose main concern is locating a $22m violin. Yes, another DNF.

11. Remnants by Elizabeth Maddrey. This is actually a box set of a trilogy and I would have been tempted to count it as three if I hadn't just added three DNFs! (But I will count them as three for my main Goodreads challenge, because I won't be counting the others.)

Thank you!

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 14. Secrets of Sunbeams by Valerie Comer (which Goodreads tells me I read in 2016, but which I don't remember at all.)
15. Butterflies on Breezes by Valerie Comer
16. Memories of Mist by Valerie Comer

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments I knew I'd been busy, but this is nuts - no TBRs for almost three months.

17. Rescuing Finley by Dan Walsh

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 18. Collaborations by Craig Martelle

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 20. More than a number by Michael Allyn Laborn
21. Mark Dawson's Writing a Page-turner by Elizabeth Bailey
22. How to Write a Series by Sara Rosett
23. The Successful Author Mindset by Joanna Penn

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 25. The Island House by Elana Johnson
26. Aloha Hideaway by Elana Johnson
27. The Perfect Storm by Elana Johnson

I'd actually read The Island House before but didn't remember a single thing about it ... that's the definition of forgettable.

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments Holiday time means reading time :)

28. Edge of Mercy by Heidi Chiavaroli - oops. Another book Goodreads tells me I've already read, but I remember nothing about it.

29. The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz - DNF because I didn't like the characters or the made-up Welsh name.

30. Acres of Promise by Lisa Renee - okay, but the romance was too quick (because it spent half the story on a going-nowhere red-flag relationship).

31. Polarized Love by Lisa Renee - DNF because it was following the same beats as Acres of Promise ...

32. The Small Town Boy's Redemption by Jessie Gussman

33. The Small Town Boy's Secret Romance by Jessie Gussman

34. The Small Town Boy's Second Chance by Jessie Gussman

35. Wanderers by Chuck Wendig (I can see why he's a bestselling author).

Iola (iola_goulton) | 21 comments 37. Someone to Blame by CS Laikin.

I tried reading this once and got to 6%. I tried a second time and got to 10%, with still no idea of who is the main character or what the plot is supposed to be.

It's therefore a DNF and off the TBR pile. Maybe I'll come back to it one day ...
