A couple of things to keep in mind:
✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

FYI I am going out of town Feb 17 to Feb 20 on a business trip. But I plan to have my book for that week done before I leave.

We're also going to Cancun in April. That trip might be trickier as far as internet so we'll see where we are in the game. I can load my kindle and phone up with potential books and read by the pool.

We are headed to Arizona in Feb, Wisconsin in June, St. Louis in July, Texas in August, and hopefully just parents weekend away. oh ya with a few trips to Iowa where I'm from. lol majority of our travel is to see family. Arizona and Texas are both family.

Yes, we are. I remember being on another team challenge with you. Good to be able to team up again! :)

We need a team name? haha and quick the game starts in less than 24 hours. eekk. I'm so excited. I've been sitting without a fun book for like 3 days. I didn't want to start one if it worked for the first roll. haha

Book: Burnt Offerings

Author: Laurell K. Hamilton
How it fits: #7 in series Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter

ETA:
I'm going to read Murder on Lenox Hill by Victoria Thompson. It is Gaslight Mystery #7. It has 304 pages.
Just so you know, Kayla, I plan to do series number only; no alternates. But I will be jumping from series to series and not reading a complete series.

My goal is to read books that I own but I've got 4 books in a series... hopefully library willing.

Spot: 7

Book: Murder on Lenox Hill- Victoria Thompson
Qualification: Gaslight Mystery #7
Date read: 1/22/22
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Midwife Sarah is called to the home of a family with a teenage girl who is simple minded. They fear that she is pregnant, and she is. However, she is very protected and the parents are unable to determine how the pregnancy might have happened. Sarah begins investigating and drags Frank into it as well. They discover a horrible secret. Then someone ends up dead and Frank is now investigating officially. I really enjoy this series. Even though it is a cozy mystery, it touches upon real conditions for that time (early 1900s). I really enjoy the characters and love that they don't stay still in time but develop each book. This series would be best enjoyed when reading in order. This one covered a horrible subject that unfortunately is all too real. It was handled well, I felt, without being too graphic. I look forward to continuing this series.

I tend to not be on much over weekends. I work on a computer all day M-F and don't want to look at a screen much by Saturday.

I'll let you know for sure what I'm reading in a bit. Still looking around.

Book: Burnt Offerings

Author: Laurell K. Hamilton
How it fits: #7 in series Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter
Date read: 1/25/22
Rating: 3 stars
Review: In this book Anita is approached for help in figuring out why vampires have suddenly started going up in flames. Then a nasty group called the Council shows up pressuring Jean-Claude to join them. Anita has in the meantime started sleeping with Jean-Claude and dumped Richard who has completely lost it and left his pack to fend for themselves instead of protecting them as an alpha should. And of course, the pack appeals to Anita for help. These are the main storylines and provide for some hair-raising action.
I have such mixed feelings about this book and series. I find myself enjoying parts, mainly the action, which I have to admit is a good part of the book. On the other hand, the ongoing triangle between Anita, Richard, and Jean-Claude has really gotten old. You would think if Anita has finally chosen Jean-Claude that we could let it rest but no, that attraction between Anita and Richard has not cooled down any. Oh well, maybe next book.

Started my audiobook today. Should have it finished by tomorrow night 🙂

Week #1 - Spot #7

It's Complicated
How it Fits: Tucker Springs #7
Completed: 1/25
Rating: ★★
Review: This was not my kind of story. We have an established couple who have been off and on for years and have decided to get back together. Then they find out that while they were broken up for a couple months one of the MCs slept with his ex wife and got her pregnant. So the story is just about them trying to get their relationship back on track while all this drama is going on. They fight and have sex. It got old pretty quickly. I did understand the insecurity of the other MC when it came to the baby and ex wife. I thought some of the fights were ridiculous and I just wanted them to move on. This is definitely not one of this author's best work.

Week #1 - Spot #7

How it Fits: Haunted Home Renovation #7
Completed: 1/26
Rating: ★★★★
Review
Juliette Blackwell is a favorite author of mine and this series and the Lilly Ivory series are comfort reads to me. This one didn't disappoint. Loved the haunted light house setting. These are perfect when you want a light, quick read with a little paranormal twist.
