Congrats on the publish, Philip. That well deserved the acknowledgement.
Those beachings are so terribly sad to me.

No, but whale hunting is a travesty, criminal.
I've got notes for a story I want to write someday — not quite ready to tackle it yet — that centers around the concept that the aquatic mammals turn out to have a much more intellectually, emotionally advanced civilization; they took a different path, developed those capacities instead of technological/industrial ones (lower *advancements* in civilization) mainly spurred by the lack of opposable thumbs.

I read somewhere that before humans started polluting the oceans with the noise of ships' engines, whales where able to communicate over great distances, hundreds of miles or more. Perhaps you'll use notions like that in your story?
Yes, I'm collecting stuff like that. I keep files on all sorts of nascent stories, adding bits of known, questions, notions I get, odd bits of research I stumble on, even phrases and words. Anything that wanders into my head.
Philip wrote: "Not as sad as whale hunting, though. Thanks for reading."
It's all sad, but congrats Philip. Especially like the second stanza.
