Eugene Galt (eugenegalt) | 286 comments I've just finished Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park.

message 2: by Greg (new)

Greg I'm halfway through In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado and loving it! I'm also re-reading The Waste Land. Will probably finish the Machado one by tomorrow at the rate I'm going.

Next up will be The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne and perhaps a re-read of Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

Bill | 466 comments I'm very much enjoying Beijing Comrades which first appeared underground online in China, attributed to an author with various pseudonyms, but best known as Beijing Tongzhi

message 4: by Loren (new)

Loren Olson (lorenaolsonmd) | 55 comments I've just finished Unprotected: A Memoir by Billy Porter. It was an interesting story of the struggles of being Black and gay and the importance of advocating for oneself. I felt it could have benefited from an additional editing or two.

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma Roo | 6 comments I am about half way through The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I have seen this book everywhere recently and decided to see what all the hype was about. Thus far it is meeting expectations but I have a feeling I know what the ending is going to be. Hopefully it proves me wrong and its not as predictable as i think it will turn out.

message 7: by Bill (new)

Bill | 466 comments I'm intrigued so far with Pew by Catherine Lacey

message 8: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Longo (josephlongo) | 75 comments I am almost finished with American Dirt. It's a harrowing tale of a woman and her son trying to get illegally to El Norte from Mexico. It's well written but disturbing. I had to take a break from it and read less harrowing book, which was Donna Leon's By the Book. It was pretty good. Now I'm back to American Dirt.

Bill | 466 comments I'm reading Probation by Tom Mendicino, about what happens to a man after he's caught cruising in a highway rest area.

message 10: by Greg (new)

Greg Bill wrote: "I'm reading Probation by Tom Mendicino, about a man what happens to a man after he's caught cruising in a highway rest area."

That looks good Bill! Is it set in contemporary times or is this historical?

The book was published in 2010 and is set in the present.

message 12: by Loren (new)

Loren Olson (lorenaolsonmd) | 55 comments I'm reading Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy. Although this book is political and not focused on LGBTQ issues, protecting our democracy is essential to protecting our rights as queer people. I think this book is an important read.
Congressman also addresses the issue of his son's suicide as a subtext, and this, too, is an important issue of the LGBTQ community.

message 13: by Eugene (new)

Eugene Galt (eugenegalt) | 286 comments I just reread The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark, which I had had to read in high school.

Eugene Galt (eugenegalt) | 286 comments Greg wrote: "What did you think on your reread Eugene?"

I realized how much I had missed the first time about the psychological makeups of Sandy and Miss Brodie.

I've just started The SEPA Project by Jillian Moody.

message 17: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 465 comments Just finished 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know about People by Susan M. Weinschenk, which I didn't enjoy.

Just finished The List by Mick Herron, which I did enjoy.

Just started Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune.

message 19: by Bill (new)

Bill | 466 comments I'm finally reading The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.

message 20: by Tom (new)

Tom | 19 comments The Prophets is on my to be read pile; I’ve gotten good reports on it from friends. Just read that Patrick Gale’s new novel, Mother’s Son, will be available on the first of March. His novel A Place Called Winter is one of my favorites.

message 21: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa (clariann) | 55 comments Greg wrote: "I'm halfway through In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado and loving it! ."

Have you finished it now, Greg? I found it so powerful and thought provoking.

I have just finished Allure of Oartheca: Book One of the Oarthecan Star Saga by James Siewert, it was so good to read a queer science fiction story, I really recommend it for anyone who wants to get their geek on.

Love Le Carre. How are you finding it?

Eugene Galt (eugenegalt) | 286 comments Bazu96 wrote: Love Le Carre. How are you finding it?"

I enjoyed it. I liked his treatment of moral ambiguity.

Also, I read a NetGalley ARC of Tales of the City (vol one ) Graphic Novel by Isabelle Bauthian and have started The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers.

I think it can make a nice intro to the Tales of the City world for people who haven't read the originals, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who have.

I did Clarissa, and I thought it was so inventive and wonderfully done! Thought provoking as you say. She's a great storyteller too - I'm eager to read more of her work!

message 29: by Greg (last edited Feb 22, 2022 11:03PM) (new)

Greg Just about finished The Heart's Invisible Furies - hilarious and poignant by turns.

And now starting Foundation. I'd read it years ago but didn't remember much. I'm enjoying the re-read so far.

message 31: by Loren (new)

Loren Olson (lorenaolsonmd) | 55 comments Just finished and really enjoyed it. At first I thought it was mostly for YA, but as a 79 year old reader, I found much to like in it.
