Anyone started yet? I have a Kindle copy from my library, but working on finishing some other books before I start.

I have a paper copy but 5-6 in front of it still. yikes.

Yeah . . . I am still trying to find some reading time for this. Stupid work and chores!

Finally starting! No way I can finish this by tomorrow, but perhaps over the next couple days.

Well, I finished it. It took me a while to get into this book, perhaps because the characters were a miserable lot. I have read a handful of books set in Africa and have generally enjoyed the alternate perspective (for me).

Nothing like saying “Africa” as if it is all encompassing when it has more countries than any other continent & huge diversity of culture, and isn’t that just the point of this book, perhaps? I think Bowles is trying to highlight this type of American traveler/tourist and, if so, he does an excellent job describing horrible people.

If that were all, I wouldn’t mind the caricature as much. My issue beyond irredeemable characters, including how Kit behaves when (view spoiler)[ Port is dying lies in the portrayal of her actions and response to her physical assaults after leaving Port. I just cannot accept this portrayal. (hide spoiler)]
