How is this classic treating you?

This was my second time reading it but I found it really flat. There didn’t seem much emotion behind anything which made caring about the series or characters hard. The ending was interesting but not a surprise. I don’t think I’m a fan this time round.

Liz R (ely018) | 51 comments Started yesterday the book since I had to read foundation first. So far, the book has helped me understand things from the first book. My impressions so far is that it is interesting enough for me to want to continue the series but it isn't a 'wow' for me. Of course, I recently began with sci-fi books so that may be a reason.

Mike Curtis | 155 comments I similarly found the first half of the book to be pretty flat. The initial characters were not particularly engaging and their actions did not seem to have any effect on any of the events. It just seemed as if there wasn't anything at stake.

To me, the book did not start to get interesting until the second half when the grand plan of the Foundation starts to break apart. I did like the Bayta character, especially her introduction where she essentially teases her husband after catching him fishing for a compliment.

The resolution at the end was also pretty satisfying, although I think the big twist was somewhat predictable. Ultimately, I think this book was fine, but probably does not stand on its own apart from the other books of the series.
