Hi Everyone! Welcome! Thank you so much for joining The Da Vinci Code Readalong! I'm so glad that you are here. Please do introduce yourself.

I'm Lisa of Troy and will be hosting this readalong. This will be my first time reading this book so I am very excited to dive in. Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this read!

There will be another thread called, "Readalong Discussion (no spoilers/spoilers keeping pace with readalong)." That will be where you can log in and view/post discussion for the book.

Alexw Jumped on this opportunity to discuss Da Vinci Code. Have been a big fan on Lisa of Troy (love that Goodread name) and her review of The Great Gatsby is inspired while her You Tube channel is the best.
I have already read Da Vinci but will dust it off and read with you. I have read Walter Isaacson fine book on Davinci which gives insight to this book also.
I am 66 live in USA, hunt fish, read, mountain bike, ski and golf. Looking forward to finding many new friends here as we explore the magic of reading.

anusha_reads Hi everybody
I am Anu. I have read Davinci code too, but like Alex, jumped at the mere mention of the book. looking forward to discussing with all of you. I will reread it with everybody. I am currently reading the cat who saved books by Sosuke NATSUKAWA. just a few pages into it and I found it interesting.

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Hello, thank you for inviting me. I've read all 5 books by Dan Brown in the spring of 2021, but would like to read what others have to say about his books. With the exception of the last Robert Langdon novel (set in Spain) I enjoyed the first 4 thoroughly. My favorites were "DaVinci Code" and "Lost Symbol".

In order to introduce myself, here a few more sentences about me. I immigrated 20 years ago from Germany to the US realizing my oldest childhood dream. Being a movie buff, I often feel here like a kid in a candy store as TCM offers so many old movies which I was never able to watch on German TV.

Before I immigrated, I worked for 11,5 years for a German movie magazine in Hamburg, a wonderful job!

Now my husband and I enjoy our retirement since last spring and our 7 year old white German shepherd called Cody. And I'm reading more than ever before.

message 7: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Of course we watched all Robert Langdon movies with Tom Hanks, so I always knew how to imagine the characters when I finally started reading the novels.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I love these reading groups!

I'm not sure, at least not yet, if I'll read this one. I fell asleep during the movie, and I like Tom Hanks :).

message 9: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (jsaltal) Hello, I'm Joe. I've read the book before, but have not seen the film. It's the opposite for "Angels And Demons." I saw the film, but haven't read the book.

message 10: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) Hello, I am Dana! Almost 26, and I love books, video games, the Moon, coffee and spaghetti. xD

I haven't read nor watched the books/movies but they are on my tbr for years! So yes, I can't wait to participate in this readalong.

I read The Da Vinci Code when it first came out and enjoyed it. I read Dan Brown's other books as well. I was most impressed by The Da Vinci Code and look forward to reading it with the group. I look forward to getting to know some of you.

message 16: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce | 4 comments Hi everyone, I am Marialyce and thank you, Lisa, for inviting me along on the Da Vinci adventure. I read this book a while ago and remember really loving it. I hope the second time around I will feel the same. I live now in Winston Salem, NC, but am transplanted from Virginia and New York. I am a retired teacher and have four daughters and seven grandchildren. I am a lover of books for a very long time. I also have a husband too! :)

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Bonnar | 1 comments Thank you for the invitation. I was just thinking about starting this book. I will start in March and follow the readalong. It will be my first time reading it.

message 18: by Lee (new)

Lee (the Book Butcher) (butcherfromgeorgia) hello, I'm Lee the book butcher. I've read this when the movie came out and saw the movies. Looking forward to a reread. although i always believe Steve berry's The Templar Legacy which is roughly about the same thing a better version. but maybe that's because the main character Cotton Malone is from Georgia like me!

message 19: by Lippes (new)

Lippes | 5 comments Hi all - what a nice and wonderful idea!
Never would have thought the DaVinci-Code would be such a classic, but thinking about it, you are certainly right and I really like the idea to reread it and discuss it with you!
So, yes, I already know the book and also the movie. However both is quite a while ago and I'm certain there is more to explore in this book!
About myself: I'm based in Germany, a book enthusiast and of course there are a couple of Dan Browns sitting on my shelf. Some of them already disappeared since I didn't liked them, but the Da Vinci Code is there to stay...:)

message 20: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Hi Lippes, I'm originally from Germany, too.
I've read the Dan Brown series in German translation in the spring of 2021, but the very first time that I discovered the books was in a small bookstore in Carmel-by-the-Sea in California where I couldn't find any interesting new novels (this was in December 2019), so I finally decided to read "The DaVinci Code" in English for the first time, because I enjoyed the movie so much.

Tschuess,

Chrissie

Peacejanz | 17 comments I am Jan Z, retired university research prof. For 30 years or more I sign everything with "peace" because I know about Tide, Toyota, Coke -- use the name any time you can. You never know when someone will really think of peace. And in retirement, my total focus along with reading is working for world peace. We have tried war and that did not work so well. I live in Florida where I grew up - lots of political problems here but they seem to be everywhere. How do you change the world? One person at a time. peace, janz
Thanks for the invite - I really enjoy others views on the books I am reading. I read this when it first came out. Liked it then.

message 22: by Urvi (new)

Urvi | 1 comments Hi all! Happy to be a part of the group! I read the book a few years ago and reread a few times and love it!

Rebecca (mamanyt) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Rebecca, currently living in, but not from, a tiny town in North Carolina. I've read all of the Robert Langdon books, and jumped at the chance to get my "The Da Vinci Code" off of the shelf for a re-read! I found it fascinating.

I also found all of the furor over the book fascinating, and absurd. People tended to forget that it is a work of fiction. As such, I found it vastly entertaining, and it did spur me on to some very interesting avenues of research!

message 24: by Lorie (new)

Lorie | 7 comments Hi everyone I'm Lorie. I am excited to participate in this read-along, especially with this particular book. Thank you for the invite Lisa of Troy. I read this book over a decade ago and have been wanting to re-read it for awhile. Looking forward to the discussion.

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Is there an overall link where people could see all the readalongs on Goodreads?

message 32: by Peacejanz (new)

Peacejanz | 17 comments Christine -- don't know why this is not more available. Go up to the top to "Community" Pull the list down and you will see all the groups - active or inactive. I think you have to ask to join some of them. I am in the Charles Dickens one and it is fantastic - very knowledgeable, commentators and we read the books in the exact way they were published. Dickens first published chapters in magazines so we read the three or four chapters at a time, commentators give info, then we question or give our likes or dislikes (usually about characters). I once questioned why so many readers seemed to dislike a certain character - Wow, they did not just tell me, they gave me exact quotes from the book that showed her meanness. I am a more careful reader now. Good luck, peace, janz

message 43: by Kay (new)

Kay (kayx1f342) Hello I'm Kay! I wanted to complete Robert Langdon series and I'm super excited that Lisa has this book for a read-along. I started them out of order #5 and then #1!😅

message 44: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments I thought # 5 was so disappointing. I loved the first three books and felt that # 4 was still quite well done.
"The DaVinci Code" is my favorite and also "The Lost Symbol", because I love Washington, D. C..
"The Lost Symbol" provides you with so many inspirations for a D. C. trip that you feel like going there (which we would have done this year if my uncle from Germany wouldn't have become sick).

Same here, Christine - #5 really was such a disappointment, whereas especially the first ones encouraged me to see places, to examine art even...

message 48: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Lippes, I ordered the illustrated versions of the books in hardcover (where illustrated versions were available).

message 49: by Lippes (new)

Lippes | 5 comments Christine wrote: "Lippes, I ordered the illustrated versions of the books in hardcover (where illustrated versions were available)."

That's actually the version I have as well for the first two books! It's fantastic to combine the descriptions with the actual pictures, making it more vivid. And somehow it makes the whole plot seem even more possible, don't you think?

message 50: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 46 comments Yes, it's quite impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the illustrated version.
