This is a spoiler thread for the final Rockton book, turn back if you don't want to be spoiled.

So as far as a spin off, I don't see how it could work. The dynamics would have to be different without the counsel's meddling or financial support. I don't see how a new rockton could be self sustainable and still hidden, unless they go the way of the settlements. And how would they get new residents without exposing themselves. I could see one book with Casey's nemesis hunting her down, but...

DemetraP | 1702 comments I thought they would research crime victims on the internet and invite the ones they vetted and thought deserved to hide. If they were self sufficient (Casey has $1 million in her trust fund she's never touched) they wouldn't need to charge the victims.

DemetraP | 1702 comments The Council was the main villain in the earlier books but in the spin off I bet the Council would continue to meddle. They'd never leave them alone once they figured out where they went. So the Council would just send people to their doorstep and it's not like they could send them back immediately.

DemetraP | 1702 comments Or a new villain could arise. Remember the Rockton book where they pretended it was a secret government installation?

What is the government found out about them and started sending them witnesses/spies to hide? So the government would be the new baddie and they'd be stuck dealing with these witnesses or "assets" they don't want to babysit.

Those all seem like great ideas. I just got hung up on the logistics - a million dollars isn't that much these days. Oh, I forgot about the former council woman ( the grandma) who offered to buy rockton, I guess she could do the funding and the 'marketing'. I do think you are right about the council still being a thorn in their side. I did like the way that the Rockton crew stuck to the council by saving the pieces of the town that were supposed to be recycled - that should give them a good start.

I do hope to see more of Cassie and crew in the future.

Vanessa (vanessacoutu) | 1377 comments I really enjoyed this series. I was thinking that maybe they do have the makings for another series because of the person who founded Rockton originally, (grandma). She might be able to gather up support for the new settlement. Also, there is some kind of military connection. Both the granddaughter and the deputy are former military/spy types so they got there somehow. Right?

DemetraP | 1702 comments I would love a Rockton spinoff with witnesses or military assets being forced to hide there and Rockton having to deal with them. Instead of the Council, it's the USA.

Vanessa (vanessacoutu) | 1377 comments You have a point, either the USA or the Canadian military. I'm just not ready to see this series leave. I love all of the main characters, Casey, Eric, her sister, the deputy, even the "butcher". Armstrong has such a wild combo of personalities all churned together, love it.

DemetraP | 1702 comments Me too. I love the characters and how we slowly found out their back stories over the course of the series.

HappyBookWorm2020 | 2767 comments I hope KA reboots it also. I see a lot of potential for Rockford II.

DemetraP | 1702 comments If you haven't read her Nadia Stafford series I liked it too. A former female cop (disgraced) now owns a wilderness lodge in Canada and pulls 'hits" on criminals on the side to keep things afloat.

You have that living in the wilderness feel (although she is right next to a town) and she solves mysteries in each book. There is also a mysterious hitman mentor who helps her. Exit Strategy (Nadia Stafford #1) by Kelley Armstrong Made to Be Broken (Nadia Stafford, #2) by Kelley Armstrong Wild Justice (Nadia Stafford, #3) by Kelley Armstrong Double Play (Nadia Stafford, #3.5) by Kelley Armstrong Perfect Victim (Nadia Stafford #3.6) by Kelley Armstrong

Vanessa (vanessacoutu) | 1377 comments That sounds like a great series. I tried listening to "Omens", but I couldn't get into it. I should probably give it another try.

DemetraP | 1702 comments I don't enjoy her young adult books, I tried. Just not for me.
