Read the book in like 2014-16. The mc decides to run away from home to find her mom who got swept up in cult business and is apparently in the NASA area. She is joined by a boy who wants to join NASA and on the way there is an instance where they almost get stopped by security(?). She eventually does find her mom (spoilers!!) who had been hiding in the area after she was scammed by the cult and left there. She explained that she had been too embarrassed to go back home after everything that happened.
