The first chapter was pretty awesome. I love reading about Paris during the revolution. I think the first chapter showed that the Scarlet Pimpernel was a pretty rad secret-agent-type guy. But, it kind of surprised me that Bibot didn't turn into a Javert. I kind of expected him to be the one who was going to stalk the Pimpernel around. Anyways... One thing that really bothers me so far, is that she writes in the accents. I prefer to just imagine the accent. Also, the use of the word "whilst" seems excessive...
I agree about the accents. Throughout a whole book they can become tiresome. Usually it's just easier to change sentence structure to imply the accent.
I loved how SP tricked Bibot. I wondered how he was able to stand being a regular next to the guillotine, occasionally being sprayed by blood.

When Charles Dickens talked about the ladies sitting by the guillotine knitting, it didn't creep me out as much as this description did. Tying hair on the end of your whip is just gross.
I'm pretty sure I know who the SP is and I like how the Baroness occasionally drops hints for readers to find. Has anyone else figured out his identity yet?
I've read the book before and I have to say that the first time through I was clueless until the final reveal. It blew me away!
