Joe Pickett has never been fond of his mother-in-law Missy; the feeling is mutual. The murder of Missy's latest husband, Earl Alden, has forced the two into a working relationship as Missy has been accused of the crime. Earl was discovered hanging from one of the blades of a wind turbine on his vast wind farm. How Missy was able to get the body up there is a moot point as the entire town is less than enamored of the widow Alden. She collects husbands like beachgoers collect sea shells and the richer the better. Joe has his work cut out for him to try to prove her innocence.
Meanwhile, Joe's best friend, the elusive Nate Romanowski, has been targeted by an unknown assailant. Unfortunately Nate's love interest is killed in an explosion and he vows revenge. Although he and Joe have been estranged since a case they worked together a year ago, the two will work together to solve both crimes.
I became a little lost in the politics of the wind farm situation but the story and mystery were good ones. This has been one of my favorite series and I am looking forward to the next one.
