When Kathleen learns of her father’s death, she and Devon make plans to travel to Wales for the funeral, leaving Lady Berwick to stay with the twins. How well did she manage the spirited twins and Helen? What opinions did you form at this stage?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Lady Berwick was a very formidable character, in the beginning. She soon bent somewhat, and I'm not surprised she did, otherwise why would Kathleen love her so much?

Phrynne | 14 comments I thought she tried her hardest to do the right thing. She really believed that a woman had to be married at any cost

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments Lady Berwick does a decent job with the twins. They need to refine their temperament. Most society's women's goal is to find a husband to provide for them; in return, the women are expected to give their husbands a few sons.

I don't believe Berwick had Helen's best interests at heart. She needed Helen to keep Lady Berwick's status in society.

I thought Lady Berwick would be more rigid and traditional so I was surprised at how well she managed the twins with flexibility. She bonded with Helen though later that became problematic for me. I was liking her here.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I was a bit surprised. I also thought she would be more rigid especially with the twins.
