Helen Pepler | 1 comments Hey, I just remembered we had this page, is anyone still here? What are you all reading?

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie (jsparks) | 2 comments Hi Helen! I always have a bunch of books going. My overall theme for May is the 1950s, and I try to read a mix of classics written in the time period, historical fiction about the period, and nonfiction about the period. Today I will finish A Painted House and read a good chunk of Black Like Me, Casino Royale, and Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. I’ve also got The Ghosts of Rose Hill as a palate cleanser. 😀

Violet B | 6 comments Always many books on my currently reading list. Tonight’s book to finish is https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

Elyse | 1 comments Currently reading The Martian by Andy Weir. My TBR pile is massive.

Susie M | 1 comments Shark Heart by Emily Habeck - I wish people would quit recommending books to make me cry 😂

message 6: by Jeniffer (new)

Jeniffer Katona | 7 comments House of Flame and Shadows. Just spent the last month listening to all the SJM books.

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 4 comments Just finished The Bell Jar and Neon Gods. Don't read the Bell Jar if you have mental health issues. It did not leave me in a good place. Neon Gods, however....whew! Delightful, spicy content! I just started Cleopatra, a Biography by Roller. Will probably work on finishing Clash of Kings by Martin to break up the dryness of the biography. Also have Acotar waiting in the wings.

Violet B | 6 comments So I have a question for everyone/anyone (basically I do not want to lose this thread to the other for another two years)

I am a librarian assistant, a non-degree librarian. I have patrons from 5-95 asking for book recommendations so I read everything.

My question is: Do you add every book you read to your list in here? Do you count it towards your reading goal? Do formats (audio vs physical vs ebook) matter to you?

This is just conversation fodder. No wrong answers

Yours in between the pages,
V

Kate (klewallen) | 13 comments Also a librarian. I add everything, though I work with middle and high school students to that's where my reading tends to navigate. I have a shelf for audiobooks, set up so that something is both read and audio, just to keep track of what I listened to. I have a friend who is an elementary school librarian and so her annual goal is higher to accommodate all the picture books.

Tracy (tanravenclaw) | 2 comments I add every book, even audiobooks. Since having a baby it’s a lot harder to fit in physical books. I want a record of what stories I know so the format doesn’t matter so much to me.

Karen (scrapperkaren) | 5 comments Hi! I try to add everything I read and or listen to to Goodreads. I do not count the preschool books that I read to my grandson though. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I walk or drive places. Sometimes I will listen to and read the same book at the same time depending on the situation I’m in at the moment. Audiobooks definitely count as reading to me!

Katie (kehkd2) | 3 comments I'm also a librarian, in youth services. I used to add all the books I read, because why not? For several years now I've been on a picture book committee, and would add all the nominees I read (anywhere from 80-150 depending on the year) and write reviews for each one. I found that helpful when it came time to turn in ratings and discuss books because I could refer back to my reviews. However, that became too tedious, and I put too much pressure on myself to write 'helpful' reviews. Now if I come across a picture book I would use in storytime, or deserving of 5 stars, I will add it to my Goodreads 'read' list, and add it to the sublist I have for storytime.

In regards to your work reading depending on your catalog/ILL system you could keep reviews and lists on that system, separate from your personal. Or create a professional Goodreads for your RAs if you don't want them to cross over.
