Mike Muldoon is almost immediately smitten with Joan DaCosta. According to his Team, Mike’s drawn to older, dominant women. Why do you think that is?

He seemed to be used to women throwing themselves at him. We learned in a previous book that he never had to actually make the first move. When he noticed that Joan wasn't one of them, be became smitten. I really don't have a reason that Mike is drawn to older women.

Like Robin says, I'm not sure that he is drawn to them rather these are the types of women who are constantly throwing themselves at him.

I liked the fact that Mike had to actively pursue Joan and I definitely would not characterize her as a dominant older woman. 6 years is not a large age gap in any sense of the word, especially considering that women live longer than men.

I recall the same thing from an earlier story about Mike having a penchant for older women (Sam characterized them as whip toting). He’s used to not having to make the moves and “older” women tend to be more confident to do that.

I did feel Joan was rather dominant, especially with her opinions. She certainly was that way with Mike as she dismissed or disbelieved most of what he tried to tell her about him. She set the rules and condescended to him.

I think the reason Mike is drawn to or at least appreciates older women is more for their maturity. He’s seen for his exterior looks and young women treat him superficially. It’s all I’ve got.

I feel like Mike has an older soul which draws him to women who are more independent and experienced.

I didn't get that Joan was dominant when reading the book. She often appears as lacking confidence and fearful about relationships, especially since she has a hard time dealing with the age difference.

This is the impression I got although I can see how her decisiveness and skill in her job could make her appear dominant.

I’m going to have to lean on your impressions, Sharon & Lauren, as Mike’s marrying her and I’ll see her again. I want to like her.

Joan was a lot more confident in her job than she was in her personal life. She was very insecure about her body and absolutely couldn't believe that hot, handsome Mike could look beyond what she believes was a deal breaker.
