Many of the groups I’m in are struggling to maintain a basic level of participation—certainly not an issue here. The only new-to-me idea I’ve seen this year was a book pool, and everyone here reads the same books anyway so it wouldn’t be adaptable. I’ll keep an eye open, though!

For our game, I wish to focus on the 'connections' aspect.
Each participant will have to draw a connection to the participant who commented immediately before them using Austen or Austenesque books and authors. For example, if I commented with: Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. The next commenter could choose to to state a title or author that is somehow connected to my choice of book or author like Netherfield Park Revisited by Rebecca Collins (using Park as the connection) or Jane Austen's Letters by Dierdre Le Faye (using author name as connection).
Connections can also be something the books have in common besides title or authors like trope or element.
If the trope (forced marriage, love triangle, etc) or element (gender swap, mystery, international setting, bio of Jane, etc) is obvious from the blurb that the two have in common, you can use them. We will not count common characters unless it is something like a secondary character in the lead role (Mary Crawford, Margaret Dashwood, Colonel Fitzwilliam, etc). Having the same variation element will work, too (like Mr. Bennet dies, finishing The Watsons, different romance partners, Elizabeth is higher born, etc) .
If you do use something like this as the connection, make sure you add it to your comment to help others see the connection.
HOWEVER... here's the twist. Those participating in the group read must find their July group read from books and authors in the comments.
Commenters can leave as many comment connections as they wish with one exception. A commenter may not make a comment connection on their own last comment.
Reading choices can start being listed on July 1st
There is also no restriction to the reading choice release date, edition, or if the book is already currently on the reader's own reading pile, from their library, or on their wish list. Though, give yourself an extra pat on the back if your choice does indeed reduce your existing reading stack.
Participants are welcome to come back and share thoughts on their July group read book.
