Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) Hi and welcome! I'm Tyler, one of the mods here.

I'm queer (bisexual and nonbinary trans specifically) and use They/He pronouns. I'm also physically disabled and neurodivergent.

I like to read all kinds of different things. My first love was horror. Since then, I still love horror, I also read pretty much everything. Nonfiction is my second favorite (Queer stuff, Disability Lit, Social issues, Nature, Animals, Random things) Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery/Thriller, Contemporary, Romance, etc. I read all formats and age ranges.

I love to read for many reasons; to learn, to go on journeys, to expand my mind, to have fun.

I'm currently in my 30s. I'm a widow. I live with my mom, a dog (Bear) and 2 cats (Mandi and Midnight). I live in New Jersey in the US.

Tell us a little about yourself! What do you love to read? Why do you love to read?

Allen (sleepytechnokid) | 3 comments Hello, my name is Allen, I'm bisexual and 24 years old, I have a huge fascination with Doctor Who, I do spend the time writing for a hobby

As that I read rather variety Genres of Fiction literature, mostly are Sci-Fi and Fantasy, even Historical. I do enjoy them by Print or Audio. Things I do mostly enjoy reading are Doctor Who contents with Prose and Audios but I do expand with other ranges. My first being The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

I read books for in the way to find contents, stories like that sort of thing, but also improving writing and vocabulary, and most of the times escapism.

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy (nonfictionfeminist) | 3 comments Hey everybody,

I'm Amy, non-binary, bisexual, mom to 2 enormous cats. I'm 28, I have a BookTube channel, and I read a little bit of everything. Genres I tend to avoid are absurdism, speculative and literary fiction, and self-help. I work in graphic design, and have a daily battle with my anxiety. I've really been enjoying horror and thrillers the last couple years, and have started dabbling in the romance genre. If I read fantasy, I prefer standalones.

message 8: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) Welcome Allen and Amy!

Georga Hackworth | 18 comments Mod
Hey everyone. I'm Georga, the other mod. I've known Tyler forever now. I just graduated university earning my BLS (Bachelors of Liberal Studies) in English with a concentration in creative writing. I an going to grad school in the fall becuase I didn't get enough abuse the first time. I am going to be majoring in English literature with a concentration in cultutal studies. Uni has warped my view a bit. I really notice how our own society is reflected in books.

As Tyler said in the group description, I'm a sci-fi nerd. I even took two science fiction literature classes at uni. I will read anything though.

I maintain a literary blog, hang out on instagram, and try to remember to keep my Goodreads updated. I'm disabled/chronical ill and identify as a human being. Human is a gender, right?

message 10: by Bionic Jean (last edited Jun 06, 2022 02:47PM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) | 40 comments Hi everyone, I'm Jean, and thank you Tyler for inviting me to this group.😊 I'm English (so that might explain various quirks) and my reading is definitely eclectic. I like Classics and SciFi - but I also like anything which pushes the boundaries publishers want to fit books into. There aren't really many genres I wouldn't read. (Chicklit is one though 🙄)

Like others here I have various conditions which disable me ... but like to think of myself mainly as a cancer warrior 💜 I moderate 4 lively groups on Goodreads, so that's where my time goes. Oh and I have a wonderful Romanian Rescue dog, who's like a cross between a Carpathian shepherd dog and a husky. I like to think of him howling in Dracula country 😂

I'm actually reading Dracula at the moment, as part of the "Dracula Daily project". They sent you a bit at a time by email, as it's in real time following the novel. All the letters and diary entries are sent on the day they were written. But it won't finish until November!

Great to be here!

Amy | 5 comments Awesome Tyler.

message 17: by Amy (new)

Amy (nonfictionfeminist) | 3 comments Hi Jean, I'm a huge Dracula fan! However, I also attempted Dracula Daily, and found I was less invested when reading it according to the date it was written. I think reading that way is just too slow for me. I'm hoping to try reading it in date order eventually, but at my regular place rather than in real time.

I'm excited to chat about books with you all!

Yeah I know what you mean. It can be frustrating when all you have one day is a one line telegram! I was trying to read it on kindle, and just treat the emails as alerts, but doing a search to find the right date made my kindle freeze -yikes - so I had to reset it and lost the book :( It was only a free one, but I don't want to risk screwing up my kindle permanently!

I'm sticking to the dates so far, but who knows ...

Welcome everyone!

message 34: by Pumpkin (new)

Pumpkin | 2 comments Hello! I’m Pumpkin, a 28 year old disabled trans guy. He/they pronouns. I struggle with antisocial behavior, but I do my best to work around that as much as my brain lets me. One of my special interests is isekai novels, a sub-genre of fantasy that’s most common in Japan. Despite being comfortable living in this genre, I do make a point to venture out regularly to see what else is out there.

I’m looking forward to participating in this book club when the books interest me, and lurking the rest of the time. I’ve been sorely lacking a book club in my life, so I’m thankful to have a chance to be a part of this one.

I don’t run any social media currently, but I do plan on starting one that’s centered around reviewing stationary- more so for a (publicly viewable) video diary to myself. Just waiting on a few bits and bobs to come in, and for my courage to build up.

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) Welcome Meepelous, Nikki and Pumpkin!

message 36: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pesta (surrealinthesunflowers) | 1 comments Hello! My name is Kristen, I prefer they/she pronouns please! I am bisexual, nonbinary, and neurodivergent. Very, very passionate about reading horror, leftist theory, and pretty much anything out of the ordinary.

I love reading books in every form, but because of my long commute, I am mostly sticking to audiobooks for the time being.

Would love to connect with you all here and/or on social media.

message 38: by bookstar (new)

bookstar cranesinger (goodreadscomingvenning) | 6 comments Howdy! I'm Bookstar (Ing Venning). I am polyspiritual (mostly pagan), on the autism spectrum, pansexual, polyamorous, a relationship anarchist, neo-socialist, gifted, mentally ill, vegetarian, nocturnal... so, yeah, not very mainstream lol. I volunteer every week to help those experiencing mental illness at a local NAMI affiliate. I love reading in multiple genres (especially science fiction, horror, fantasy, non-fiction, mystery, thriller, and literary fiction) and have degrees in creative writing and literature, with heavy emphases in linguistics and education. I am currently on disability for mental illness, but I want to try building a career as a creative. I've written several books, and a friend and I recently received a commission from Greg Bear to write a musical on a science fiction theme, so I'm really hoping that might help me launch a career.

Happy to communicate with people here or through the links found on my profile or author pages.

EWWWWW!!! Linguistics!
I kid, but linguistics kicked my ass. I have my BA in English with a concentration in creative writing (I actually did the work for both literature and creative writing concentrations because I'm weird like that). I'm going to get my MA in Literature with a concentration in cultural studies.

Even though it wasn't my easiest subject, I've always been fascinated by linguistics (except for a brief period in high school when a very cranky, arrogant teacher made me forget how much fun diagramming sentences is). Best of luck in your studies. I can't decide if I'd like to go back for a Literature master's (probably sci fi, horror, and/or fantasy emphasis) or Counseling or Social Work master's (probably with an arts therapy or sex therapy emphasis) at this point.

(Also, my bad: I was hitting the reply link above the message I wanted to reply to instead of for that message. I'll fix that in the future.)

Jasper (avidreader217) | 2 comments Hey! My name is Jasper (he/him) and I'll read from any genre as long as it's a good book. Recently I've been gravitating towards non fic, fantasy, true crime, and anything queer (bonus points for good trans rep). I'm in my early 20s and live in the US. I have a cat and a bearded dragon. Reading for me is a great opportunity to learn about different people & ways of life, spark creative thinking, and practice languages I'm trying to learn (Italian & Spanish, so if you have any recommendations for good books in those languages I am all ears!) Thanks for the invite!!
