Discuss the story here

Leah Murphy (lkautzmurphy) | 56 comments I said this on the other thread, too, but this thing is giving me anxiety.

The story is engaging and I’m mostly liking it, but so far I think it’s giving a little too much away without giving enough. I know, that makes no sense, but hear me out. In other hot books of this type, the “unreliable narrator, drop your jaw twist”, they still either feel like a good mystery that just slaps you upside the head with 10 pages left, or they have that creepy, stress you out vibe right off but drop enough crumbs that you get a lot of fun from theorizing and don’t get anxious, but then the twist is way out in left field and none of your theories even came close. His other book I’ve read (The Woman in the Window) completely fit the second). This one doesn’t fit - it’s clear from right off that there’s going to be some wacky detour, but the details are so disconnected so far that I can’t make any theory even come close to fitting and just sit here going WTF. Thus, anxiety.

You described my feelings exactly! And now, at the 72% mark the bullspit train has left the station. I am not sure I am going to like where this ends. O_o

I’m at 63%, and now really curious what’s in my near future, ha!

Me when I read this comment - and appropriate considering the comment!

Kandice | 944 comments And now I am far enough that I think we are reading that elusive blue herring plot device. Don't know what I mean?! Ha! (view spoiler)

Despite the cheesiness and the potential improbability of any twists, I can say that this story has help my interest so far (at 69%) and not every book has been able to do that lately. So, extra points for that even if it does end up being silly in the end! :)

I love this! And while I’m definitely curious to learn what your research digs up, I preemptively vote that take in the knowledge, then promptly ignore because blue herring is definitely better than whatever it’s really called!

I had a rare evening free and finished it tonight, and that’s where I’m at. I’ll get to my actual review in the next few days, but overall I didn’t love it but will give credit where it’s due for keeping me interested and the emotional reaction it gave me.

Just finished and liked it overall . . . sounds like I liked it better than most of the group members so far.

I will get to my review and rating later, but for now I will say the story (and all its herrings) kept me interested. Sure it was kind of cheesy and some of the twistiness far fetched, but I was thoroughly entertained for a few hours and that is a success in my book! :)

I agree with you. It was a good pick!
