Welcome to our week long read-a-thon. That's right, at Hooked on Books we've decided that there aren't enough hours in a day, or days in a week, so our week long read-a-thons run for 8 days! Each participant reads from 12:01am on Saturday to 11:59pm on the following Saturday in their local time zone.

I’m disappointed - this was probably my worst week-long readathon. Lots of interruptions to my reading & I got completely stuck reading An American Tragedy. I like the story, but it feels endless! I seem to read for hours but only get through a few pages. So, sorry I didn’t read more, thank you to Karen for organising the readathon & congratulations to everyone who participated & achieved at least some of their goals.

Oh my Trisha, I see why you struggled this week: An American Tragedy is almost 1,000 pages! I am impressed that you are even reading this book.

Karen, I finished it yesterday! Without the incentive of the readathon I would probably have given up as it was incredibly frustrating to read. Without giving spoilers, a main feature of the story was a trial. No problem with that, but the story told all the background leading up to a possible crime, then described the actual events. Later someone was arrested, with detailed questioning. Then the legal team prepared the defendant for trial, then the trial…
The same details were repeated so many times & a lot of them weren’t particularly interesting the first time around! It’s a shame, it should have been a fascinating story. I enjoyed the same author’s “Sister Carrie” a while ago.
