If you had it to do over would you want to be cast as Maggie Evans again ? Also, have you ever had an acting role that you later regretted ?
Did you have a scene on Dark Shadows that you didn't like to do? Maybe something that made you feel uncomfortable? BTW, I haven't been to a festival since 2007 and miss getting to talk to you and the other actors there.
How has your acting experience influenced your writing? Do you feel it's given you a unique perspective that other authors might not have?
Hi Kathryn, How long dose it take you to complete a story you're working on? In your book: Return to Collinwood you mentioned you had some ideas of what happened to Maggie. Would you ever consider making that into a book? Last if a writer wanted to get their work published (book) what advice would you give to them?
Hi Dave, Andy, Samantha, Lalita, Jon and Jim . . . Sorry I'm getting back to you so late, but perhaps you'll be pleased to know I spent the day researching magic for my next Jinx Fogarty novel, which will take place in London. I'm quite sure the best part of writing and acting is the process of researching . . . I love it!
Which brings me to Samantha's question: my acting training has most definitely informed my writing process in every way. I write in scenes, have a good sense of setting a scene and feel writing dialogue comes naturally. I work in a very organic way as an actor and a writer: my imagination and "what if" are the key factors. When the scene is real to me I can "play" it.
Jon, if I could turn back the clock, it would terrify me if in April 1966 Dan Curtis cast someone else in the role of Maggie! It was a huge turning point in my career and a catalyst for so much else that has played out in my life!
Lalita, the moments that made me feel uncomfortable are those I know will take me into new territory, both terrifying and exhilarating. I was a young actress and my first romantic kissing scene made me squirm with discomfort, but then you play the moments and it all falls together. I guess the best advice one gets is make the discomfort work for you . . . surely Maggie Evans was apprehensive about her first kiss, too!
Some of my favorite actresses are the ones we've all come to adore: Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, of course. But I'm also a Turner Classic Movie geek, so I love seeing Joan Bennett in a vintage film and all of the other Hollywood legends.
Jim wonders how long it took me to write the book . . . I could say a year, which is factual, but I could also answer a lifetime!
Andy, I would hope everyone would love to get a signed copy of Jinxed! Please go to www.kathrynleighscott.com and order a copy . . . be sure to let me know how you would like it signed! (I also include a little gift, such as a signed photo.)
Thank you all for your wonderful questions!
Won't you please tell me what you'd like to see happen to Meg Barnes in the next Jinx Fogarty mystery!
Hi Kathryn! In Jinxed, Donna serves cinnamon ice cream. Is that one of your favorite flavors? Also, you mention Robert Osborne. I think that you would make a terrific co-host on Turner Classic Movies! Finally, for the neszt Jinxed novel set in London, perhaps a lethal umbrella could come into play!
Hi Kathryn Just ordered Jinxed and can't wait to read. Here in London my partner and I are in our third cycle of watching the complete Dark Shadows series and we just got to the part with Quentin's ghost. This time around I thought the story-line with Maggie Evans and Nicolas Blair was really interesting and opened up a new side to Maggie as she moved (or was forced to move away) from Joe, but it seemed to end rather abruptly - do you recall why this was? You are now the governess at Collinwood (good move) and up next as Rachel Drummond. Hope more DS related books are in your writing future - still think a co-authored volume by you and Lara Parker as Josette and Angelique (each telling your side of that story) might be interesting....love your writing and your take on that time in TV and in Beverly Hills. All the best and remember you have an open invite to see any opera you want at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival where I work. All the best, Andy H

Wasn't there a real life episode in London when a diplomat was killed with the poisoned tip of an umbrella? . . . nice plot point.
Yes, I like cinnamon ice cream; also prune armangnac ice cream which I've only had once.

Thank you so much for answering, Kathryn. I can't imagine anyone else as Maggie Evans and know that there are others who feel the same way. I've written some fan fiction and love writing for my friends and for myself.

How very kind! I do remember your offer and I will be in London April 1 - 16, but alas pre-opera season. Lara is so busy writing her wonderful novels that I doubt we'll find time to work together on anything . . . and I have more Jinx sequels to write. Thank you for asking about Rachel Drummond, but I cannot help you with the plots for Dark Shadows . . . you'll have to refer to one of my books on the series because I have no memory of the story lines!
Thanks so much for reading Jinxed!

Thanks so much for answering my question.
I emailed you last month about my graduate school's writing conferences, and I still hope you'll be able to come sometime! :)

Hi Kathryn, I just went to your site which took me to Amazon and ordered Jinxed. Thanks so much and you can sign it "To Andy" if you would with whatever else comes to mind. I put in for 2-day shipping so I hope that doesn't cause you any undue stress or muck up any plans you may have. Thanks so much. I think she needs to visit Baker street when she gets to London.

Keep writing! One learns so much about oneself by writing . . . and it awakens interest in so much around you when you think in terms of expressing what you experience by writing about it.

Whoops! Thanks so much for ordering on Amazon, but I won't be able to sign your copy. Please send your name and address to PO Box 17217, Beverly Hills, CA 90209 and I will send you a signed bookplate . . .
Patrick wrote: "Hi Kathryn, How long dose it take you to complete a story you're working on? In your book: Return to Collinwood you mentioned you had some ideas of what happened to Maggie. Would you ever consider ..."Hi Patrick
I'm not a fast writer and it usually takes me about a year to research, write and have a book edited for publication. There are so many methods of getting published and certainly Amazon provides a means of self-publishing. With regard to Maggie's story, I doubt I will write what I think happened to her later in life as it's bound to contradict the stories in Big Finish or Lara's novels. I think I'll stick to Meg Barnes!

Bummer, I clicked on where it said click here to get the book. Thought the request got sent to you from them. Very sad. Guess I will just have to bring it to the 50th anniversary celebration for you to sign. I heard it was going to be in the Midwest next year. ;)
You could send me a bookplate though. That's very thoughtful of you.

Yes, Andy . . . bring it to the Dark Shadows 50th Festival, which will probably be in NYC. Send your address and I will mail the book plate.
Kathryn, I hope that your next Meg Barnes novel will be finished and published in time for the 2016 Dark Shadows Festival. Is Jim Pierson setting up the event? If so, please send me his email address. I'm already so excited about meeting the Dark Shadows stars, some of whom for the first time. No doubt, it's going to be a VERY special once-in-a-lifetime event--just as was the DS Caribbean cruise last month. As for the Caribbean, perhaps Meg and Jack could find romance--as well as danger--aboard a cruise ship and on the island of Martinique!
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Kathryn, I will look into publishing when I am finished writing my book. I'm looking forward to reading Down and Out + Jinxed just waiting for them to be delivered. hope all is well Patrick :)
Hi, Kathryn! I just now ordered both Jinxed and Down & Out from your website. I think it's great that you are interacting with your fans this way. My question is, and I hope you don't mind, how do you stay so young looking?

Your books are the way this morning! Thanks so much . . . staying young? I think I have to thank my mother and grandmother! I also stay active with acting and writing, both creative, nurturing pursuits that keep me learning and staying relevant.
Hi Kathryn! Can your fans expect a sequel to Dark Passages in the near future? Also, have you considered updating your Dark Shadows books with stories and photos from the two DS cruises and next year's 50th anniversary festival?
James wrote: "Hi Kathryn! Can your fans expect a sequel to Dark Passages in the near future? I am not considering another DS book, nor updating with our recent events. What is nice is that everyone contributes their stories and photos on social media . . . we all participate.
Hi, Kathryn, You met the poet Carl Sandburg when you were a teenager. Do you have a favorite poem by him?
James wrote: "Hi, Kathryn, You met the poet Carl Sandburg when you were a teenager. Do you have a favorite poem by him?"Good Question! I interviewed Carl Sandburg for my high school newspaper when I was 16 years old. I loved his poetry, grew up with it . . . and his poem about "Maggie beating her hands against the bars of a small Indiana town" resonated with me and certainly informed the character of "Maggie"that I played on Dark Shadows. By the way, I won a Minnesota state journalism award for my article.

Wonderful Kathryn.
I hope you got the message I left thru your webpage with my address for the bookmark. I also wanted to say how much I am looking forward to seeing you on Marvel's Agents of Shield. Been watching that all along and was very excited to find out you were going to be in an episode. Sounds like it is going to air on March 3rd. What did you consider to be the high point of that experience? Do you play the title role "The Baroness"? Are you the bad guy? Will there be other episodes in your future?
Jim Dixon has done an interview with me about my role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Check it out on my website www.kathrynleighscott.com
Your book plate is the way . . .

I will do that then. Thanks for the book plate also!!!
Kathryn, how do you feel about things like a Kindle as opposed to an actual book ? To me , it has to be a paper book. Anything else just isn't the same.
Jon wrote: "Kathryn, how do you feel about things like a Kindle as opposed to an actual book ? To me , it has to be a paper book. Anything else just isn't the same."Jon, I love printed books and also read ebooks. I like the idea that readers throughout the world can download Down & Out in Beverly Heels and Jinxed and begin reading in minutes. Where print books aren't necessarily available, a device holding a library of reading material is wonderful . . . I have a huge readership in Britain, France, Australia, Italy because of ebooks. Besides, most of my back list titles for Pomegranate Press are now available on ebook after many years of existing only as print books. I don't think it's a case of "opposed" so much as let's embrace both!
Hi Kathryn - Thrilled to hear about SHIELD, and enjoying the Big Finish productions. (Maybe at some point, I'll get to write one.) Like many here, I'm also going back through the DS series -- it brings back great memories and also inspires my writing. (Focusing on horror work this year.)Put me down among those hoping for a Dark Passages sequel. Thanks for all your books; they've given me a lot of enjoyment over the years. (Thanks for the autographs, too.) Maybe someday I'll get to a DS con and actually meet you in person. Keep up the great work, and best of luck for continued success!

No dates or venue set, but I'm sure the Festival will coincide with June 27/28 2016. Keep checking FB and my website . . .
Kathryn, I just got the books I ordered, thank you for sending them so quickly, and thank you for taking the time to talk with us on here this week, have a great weekend !
Kathryn, Please comment on your recent audio drama with Dark Shadows actor Mitch Ryan--who, by the way, is one of my favorite male actors on DS. I'm thrilled that you and he got an opportunity to work together again after almost 50 years!

Thanks!
