🔹1 The Mystery of Marie Roget - Edgar Allan Poe. A short story about a body found in the river Seine in Paris, the first one based on a real crime. First published 1842. Read, but not recommended.

🔹2 Deep Waters: Mysteries on the Waves - Martin Edwards. A collection of classic short stories (by various authors) from the British Library. This edition is relatively modern, but the stories are classics.

🔹3 The Nigger of the Narcissus - Joseph Conrad. With apologies for the now unacceptable word, which I believe was in common use when the book was written. The story is about a ship & its crew, with, obviously, the title character an important feature of the story.

Ohhhh I LOVE this challenge!! July is my birthday month and how I would love to spend it at the beach - my favorite place!

The Hawaii 5-0 touch is brilliant! I loved that show when it was on, and it holds up well. Lots of fun to watch 📺

Okay, perhaps I'll have something. For the first time in a few months I have not only one, but two classic novels I'll be reading. However, I have no idea yet if a sea/ocean, river or lake will be featured.

I am assuming there can by synonyms and regional terms, correct? For example, in at least part of the US they call small lakes ponds (eg Walden Pond, which is not a pond by the standards of where I grew up, but a lake) and of course things like creek vary a lot in size.

Vicky, I love group challenges too! You're got some belter choices on your list.

I have another!

Swamp Angel by Ethel Wilson

a Canadian literary classic. The protagonist loves fly fishing and ends up helping to run a fishing lodge on a lake in Canada--plenty of stuff! Also, 4+ stars!!!!!

Late on reviews, but I finished it the other day.

Finished and updated message 8. i read 4 books, though Scott and Woolf don't 'need' my recommendations , i would recommend The Summer Book, a happy and goodread indeed.

Swapped a title. The Left Hand of Darkness unexpectedly had a river which saves a life and Crook o' Lune: A Lancashire Mystery: 104 which is the name of a river surprisingly did not have any mention of the river save stating the name!
