Verse 11:

Thirty spokes converge upon a single hug; it is on the hole in the center that the use of the cart hinges.

Shape clay into a vessel; it is the space within that makes it useful. Carve fine doors and windows, but the room is useful in its emptiness.

The usefulness of what is depends on what is not.

The 'negative space' is what makes things useful. Think OUTSIDE the box, as they say...a house is not the walls; it's the space BETWEEN the walls that makes the living space. And Dr. Dyer's Jappa meditation says how it's the space BETWEEN the notes that makes the music, otherwise you'd just have one continuous monotonous note.

Beautiful thought....reminds me of something I heard this week. I was reading about "thinking outside the box" when it comes to creativity. And to unleash creativity we need to realize that there is no box. Boxes serve to limit thought....

I completely agree, Starr. This verse asks you to see things differently from the normal way.
