Jenkyn took Ethan out of the Metro Police because he saw his promise and potential. He thought he could mold him into his successor and maintain power. Ethan went along to see where it would go, but I don't think Ethan thought Jenkyn was as corrupt as he turned out to be.
I think you’re onto something, Anita. Jenkyn misjudged Ethan’s malleability, believing he could mold him into his own beliefs and ideology because of his circumstances. Yes, Ethan looked up to him but he has a strong moral center. But, Ethan didn’t know that he’d turn on him or that he wasn’t above murdering someone for his own agenda. I don’t even think Ethan suspected him of corruption until he subtly threatened Garrett and admitted to those bombs.
