Turns out that Ethan is an inventor and is wealthy in his own right! Where do he and Garrett go from here? Had you suspected he had some level of financial independence?

He and Garrett had a lot to work out. She isn't about to give up her career to be his wife and he will need to accept that. I think they will work it out.

I had no idea he was wealthy. I did think he had some money, but I just thought his clandestine job paid very well.

Like Anita, I thought Ethan probably had some money put away. But I did not think he had his own fortune.

I think Garrett will continue working for Rhys and doctoring his employees. Ethan may use some of his money to build a hospital or clinic for the workhouse and orphanage, so Garrett doesn't have to trek through the bad part of town every week.

Ethan respects Garrett too much to expect her to stop being a doctor. I like your idea, Robin, about him using some of that wealth to help some of her poor patients.

I figure Ethan had saved a bit of money since his needs were small but never imagined he was rich! He’s probably better off than his cousins.
