Seriously, unless someone sat down and literally said, "Betcha I can make a worse Austen adaptation than Mansfield Park 1999", how did this even come into existence?

There wasn't a person in the room who had read the book, or worse, they read it and decided to do the film like that on purpose

(I hope that's right, I was raised around Portuguese, but my Spanish is not very good)

Me alegro que estemos de acuerdo.
It was quite odd, when you look at the character of Anne, she is smart, but quite and introverted, forced to be due the period its set in and its rigid gender roles and expectation. She is often overlooked and disliked as well as used as a tool rather than seen as a person, let alone one that could improve her family instead of bringing it down or causing it shame. However when watching the 2022 adaptation of Persuasion, they either changed or ignore this in favour of making her out going and adored by almost all the characters. She is portrayed as confident and lively, while strangely an alcoholic with a pet rabbit. This kind of defeats the point of Anne's role in Persuasion as its her slowly building up to confronting her father and marrying Wentworth that shows her strength and ability to stand against authority (her father) and gender norms at the time. This is also displayed when she stands up for women and challenges one of the captains claims of women, as its quite sexist. This is still portrayed in the adaptation, but doesn't carry the same weight, as it doesn't show Anne's growing confidence and character growth, from someone who is shy and overlooked, to someone who is more confident and brave enough to challenge the views of the time. As in the adaptation she is already confident and opinionated.
I loved the movie. I loved the book. I think the movie brings a fun vibe that is not in the book, but that isnt an issue for me. The movie changes the vibe but not the storyline, which is fine since people do that all the time with modern adaptations (have you heard of Shakespeare?). Its amazing to me this film gets so much hate meanwhile people are okay with the dumpster garbage that is the Harry Potter movies. Maybe people feel so passionately because this is one of the few adaptations that exist? There are a lot of bad adaptations of Emma and no one is up and arms about. I thought it was fun to see someone brining humor and levity into Jane Austin since I find her incredibly witty and we rarely get fun or funny adaptations of her books. Maybe people wouldnt be so mad if they had other adaptations to seek refuge in. I liked the modern sensibility brought into the film- it was fun. Although i think the octopus comment went too far.

I think I've seen EVERY Emma movie including Clueless and have yet to find one that's even as bad as Mansfield Park 1999, let alone the recent persuasion. Even in the weakest Emma adaptation Emma is still Emma. Anne Elliott was nowhere to be found in the new Persuasion. A lot of people complained about Billie Piper as Fanny but at least she still was shy and moral like in the book, whereas fifty shades of Elliott was sassy and confident and never once came across as someone who could have been talked out of an engagement in the first place.

Especially if looking at it through a feminist perspective (Doesn't need to be of course). The original works so well because it looks back on a time where women were forced to be more passive or unopinionated and thus the power comes from her character growth and ability to challenged the expectations of the time (Not to say this doesn't happen in the adaption).
The explicitness and boldness of this doesn't need to be so apparent in a modern adaptation as times have changed and women are able to be bolder and opinionated and confident as shown with the 2022 adaptation. It would makes sense for a more modern version of the book/movie to be made, since there would be no point in making a movie that's already made. No point in the exact same movie. They convey different things, such as the passage of time and changes in society and gender through different methods and interpretations.
I think my original comment came from reading the book and watching one of the other persuasion movies to close together to the adaptation, forgetting that it is that, an adaptation.
