There was an error starting about line 20 or 25 on the books read tab. It was giving books over 500 pages 15 ingredients instead of 12.

It should be fixed now on your team sheet. But if you copied the main sheet to make a tracking sheet, you'll need to fix that on your own so I wanted to make teams aware of the correction.

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Hey team. Since I can’t access desktop view with my ipad and I will be in Spain 9/4 - 9/19 I may have to drop out. I have contacted support but they don’t seem to understand the problem. I don't want to take my laptop on vacation. If the problem gets fixed , i will stay . Sorry

message 12: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I would hate to lose you. This challenge runs to month's end, so you could enter any books after you get home. Or, I would be happy to watch your shelves if you are keeping track while traveling. It's a team challenge, we can work together to figure it out!

message 13: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I was going to say the same thing - I think we've worked well enough in the past that we can make it work.

message 14: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments How fun going to Spain!! That's wonderful. I agree, I think it'll be fine - there aren't weekly check-ins, etc. and we can input books to the spreadsheet, even if we just know the title/author.

I'm going to be gone 8/30 to 9/6 and will likely just have my phone, but will do my best to report as well as I can (although I don't know how much I'll read except for the two travel days). I'm going to the Hugo awards at worldcon - I'm super excited - and as a sidenote will need to read non fantasy/sf stuff for awhile since I've worked hard to read through nominees before voting and that was a LOT of the genre at once :)

message 15: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I'm a lite jealous of both of your adventures! You must be sure to share tales when you get back!

message 16: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments have fun at world con , sounds fun. I will hang in there. I am going to try on my husbands kindle fire to see if that will work, I am excited for Spain. I was told by a friend that if you want to travel do it before your 75. I have 4 years to get some traveling in!
Covid put a dent in my traveling and I am tired to waiting so....go , go,go!

message 17: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Just tried everything on my husbands's fire. It works , amazing. I can take his fire to spain!!! Maybe it's a Amazon trying to take over the ipad market???

message 18: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments Oh interesting - and good to know! I have a kindle fire too - maybe I'll charge and take it!

message 19: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments That is good to know. With all these recent changes in goodreads it's hard to tell what's going to work and what isn't.

message 20: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments Just a reminder (because the books of the month look pretty good in September)

BOOKS OF THE MONTH
For every team member that participates in a Book of the Month (BOM) (by joining the discussion and/or writing discussion questions) they will be able to swap out two assigned customers for others of their choice.

Limited to two customers for each team member per BOM. (i.e. you can't get the customer bonus for writing DQs AND participating. But if you join 2 BOMs in one month, you can get 4 bonuses).

message 21: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Both are books I want to read. I am rubbish at writing questions but I could definitely answer questions. I could read for one of the books.

message 22: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments Great! I THINK for each of us that reads for one or two of the books and answers questions we can substitute 2 customers. I was thinking it was 2 total customers - but then its 2 per member per BOM. So that could be nice.

I have access to the second book. I need to check about the first one. But they both look good!

message 23: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I may be able to have access to The Four Winds (there's a few copies now but it's too early to grab it). There's a 6 month wait for the Paris Apartment so I definitely won't have that in time, haha.

message 24: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Goodreads actually fixed the issue! If your on an iPad and want to switch to desktop view , scroll down to the bottom and click desktop view on the bottom right!

message 25: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments Oh yay! That makes me happy!

message 26: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments Hi! I wanted to post before I leave on my trip. I am taking index cards for my books so I can write down potential letters and ingredients. I could be wrong, but it seems as if we can get the maximum ingredients from a book, that is more beneficial than getting letters for spellouts. Correct me if that's not the case! But I'll write down both.
I hope you're all doing well. Summer sure flew by!!

message 27: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments This summer flew by so quickly. Has anyone touched base with Lynne?

I'm not sure if we've completely set a strategy but I'm planning on keeping an active note pad to keep track of all of the ingredients and possible letters.

There are some books where I'm amazed at how much people eat. I just never really thought about it, haha,

Have fun at worldcon Suzanne!

message 28: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Summer did fly by. I am leaving for Spain , Sunday Morning. I like the index card idea! This should be fun!

message 29: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 199 comments I hope y’all have lovely trips to worldcon and Spain - I’m more than a bit jealous of both trips!

Sorry I have been not on Goodreads much lately. I’ve had some health issues but thankfully they figured out what it is (kidney stone) and I got in for a surgery on the 9th.

I am looking forward to this challenge and have been going over all of the rules again today. I think the index card idea is a good one. I was considering highlighting within my kindle, but depending on the book and how much food etc is in it, that could end up getting confusing! So I think I shall try index cards, too.

message 30: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Sorry to hear that Lynne. I'm glad they were able to pinpoint the problem so hopefully after the surgery you'll feel as good as new!

How is potty training going? I think when we were wrapping up the last challenge you were just embarking on that great adventure.

message 31: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Leslie Ann, I can't wait to hear all about your trip to Spain! That's one country that still on my bucket list.

message 32: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5449 comments ouch about the kidney stone. I've seen those are excruciating!
have fun Leslie!

Yikes! Glad they figured it out. Hope you feel better soon.

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Waiting for the challenge to start is the hardest thing! I may suffer from book withdrawal, haha.

Kate S | 1998 comments Happy first day of new challenge!

Thank you for the countdown, Rebecca.

Index cards are such a good idea. Thank you for sharing.

Looking forward to making some delicious dishes with you all.

Potty training has been going surprisingly well - although I didn’t realize how long of a process it is. We are mostly on the other side of it which is glorious!

message 39: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 199 comments The book I am reading (Remarkably Bright Creatures) has a lot of food/drink words - in particular it has enough words to make Fish and Chips at least twice - including vinegar.

message 40: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Anyone have strategy ideas for this one?

message 41: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I will be participating in both BOMs this month. :)

Cheese, vegetables, meat,bread,carrot

Not sure how we want to add things, I only have read access to the ss.

message 43: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 199 comments I also only have read access.

message 44: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 199 comments Kate S wrote: "Anyone have strategy ideas for this one?"

I’m not sure what’s best, but I do think it’s a good idea to post (either here or on ss when we get access) everything relevant to spell-it-out or scavenger words for each book we read.

And then we can see what we have to work with anyway.

I’m not sure what the best strategy is for fresh vs. frozen or how many of each type of dish we should do. We don’t have any idea who our customers will be or course - but if some of us do some BOM stuff then we will have some wiggle room as far as customers go.

This is a copy of the spreadsheet that we can use for planning/tracking books read.

Thanks Kate. Are you intending for us to fill this in as we go or post completion posts here?

message 47: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I am open to suggestions. I prefer using the thread, but if people would rather use the spreadsheet, that is workable as well.

I don't know if I can share the spreadsheet (official) without email addresses and keep the integrity, but I would be happy to share access to that as people are interested. I think I need email addresses to do that.

message 48: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I don't mind posting in the thread. I just don't want you to feel like you have to take on the burden of the updating.

I think maybe we work through the next week or so to see how it goes. You can let us know how we can help. Does that work?

message 49: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Works for me! I am curious about how long we have to update the official spreadsheet at the end of the month to serve our customers. Reading through some official stuff now...

It looks like when they did the challenge in 2020 they had 48 hours.

I'm not sure if Leslie Ann's book will work - I just read "Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count." :(
